Most Turkey seasons have began .... what were some of the more critical items that you forgot on opening day ?
Mine was TP !!!!!
Forgot my boots one time and hunted in flip flops
Mouth calls.... Def miss those for that last few yards if calling. Voice did ok tho!

No boots would be a hindrance...lol

My vest is fully packed, and it is tough to forget most of my turkey gear...
I have forgotten food, and the area I hunt often involves long hunts... Honestly, I would rather forget TP than food... I am generally wearing some sort of short-sleeve shirt under my long-sleeve shirt... I can't eat that shirt, but I can use it for "other needs."
Back in the day .... most of my button up hunting shirts didn't have a tail ....????????????

You sound like me... I don't (usually) forget to take stuff in, but I have stuff all over the turkey woods... Glasses, calls, etc...
This year, I worked my way down into a canyon to work a couple birds... Turned out to be jakes. I headed back out, got another distant gobble, and realized I had left my phone on a rock down the canyon (cause I wanted to take pics of the jakes). :character0029: Headed back down, found my phone, head back up, and then went after those other birds... I am too old for that S**t!
Last hunt I was on, I found a scratcher I lost several years ago. My favorite one, and had Lonnie Gilbert make me another. Unfortunately, after a couple of years the one I recovered weren't no good no more.
If you find something expensive in the same woods I hunt, chances are it is mine!
It wasn't turkey season it was deer season but I had company over and I was so concerned with getting them set up in a good place that I knew of that left my shotgun sitting in the living room and had to drive home and get it after I had already got them set up and drove to the place I was supposed to hunt.

While in the military I was on a training op that required a long distance land navigation with an overnight. Somehow I got an upset stomach that was the demise of one t shirt and my other undershirt was a Dickey by the time we got picked up. The Imodium in my blow out kit wasn't as effective as what the docs have!!
RIP T-Shirt. ????
I left behind a thermacell. My clothes are all pre treated with Permethrin and do well alone when it's 50 or so out. One day it warmed up to almost 70 and clothing was kinda keeping the mosquitoes away. They wouldn't land on my clothes but would hover inches from my face.
Not anything, i check and recheck to make sure i have everything in my Glenda Green Satchel...
I got 1 coming soon .....

Well .... this morning was a first .... got asked last night to help a buddy get a turkey on private ground .... I rushed around early and headed to his barn... loaded the DSD strutter on the 4 wheeler ..... unloaded everything and I had forgot the FAN
Haste makes waste
Craziest thing just this past week, forgot my Longbeard XR'S. Lol, I always put them back in my vest but after a morning hunt close to home this week, I ejected them back at home and laid them on my dresser, lol. Bad mistake. Thank God I got up early enough that morning when it hit me what I had done. Just a friendly reminder to myself and others, be sure to keep a couple of extra in your vest!!

I carry 7 shells... 3 in the gun, 4 in the vest.
My thinking is... If I forget the ones that go in the gun, I have enough for a 3-shot volley, plus one more if I missed in the vest... Never have shot a 3-shot volley turkey hunting, but I imagine it would be upsetting if I did, and did not have that extra round.

I always carry extras in the truck ...
Like Greg, my Glenda Green keeps me pretty organized but it is strikers for me. Especially if I am changing them up.
My sanity... Left that on the 1.5 hour drive at 2:30 am. Gotta move closer to hunt grounds.
Some fat, I lost 10 lbs. exactly walking in and out this season, something I am glad to have lost.
I will usually drop 10 to 15 from when I start scouting to when I end season
My PRIDE!! After getting busted once this past year and after several seasons of not missing, managed to miss 3 times this year! It was a joke. Not sure how I missed 2 of them but, you can't win em all. Still a good season. Any time you can get out and spend some time in the quiet is a blessing.

I concur.....
After leaving some key items behind early in my career, I decided to prevent these slip-ups from happening again. I set my truck up every spring with extra everything. Boots, pants, shirts, sweaters, and the rest of the turkey necessities. This bag has duplicates of everything I carry hunting, shells, batteries for sites, flashlights, bore snakes(various gauges), head net, gloves, socks etc. Since I added this pre-prep stage every season, I have had everything I need to hunt with even if I forget something. And oh yes, a sticky note taped to my console that just says "Gun". No more worries "Do I have my......"
Didn't leave anything behind, but I did forget to chamber a shell on one of my hunts. Had a bird coming in, but he was intercepted by hens.. when I got back to my sxs, pulled the bolt back to unload, and there was not one in there.. oops.

You sound like me when I go someplace. Need 3 pair of underwear? Bring 6 pair. Need meds for 3 days? Bring enough for a week. My GF gets mad at me because she says I "Over prepare" I also built her an emergency box for her van when we got together, blankets, extra warm clothes for winter, emergency blankets/tarps that reflect body heat and so on. Saved her bacon one day when she got broke down and stuck in a snow storm though.
On a hunt this year, got set up and pull out the gloves and face mast and missed my glass case. Got to have my glasses to see the red dot. Got up and walked all way back to truck, and not there. This was about a 500 yard walk. Went to looking in all the pockets and finally found it in a pocket that not used often....why I put them in there I do not know. Not first time I took a walk back to the truck.
I keep a trigger guard lock on my shotgun and hunt about an hour away. I just about packed up the gun without taking the lock off. Could have been a bad way to start my morning.
I try to check and recheck but it is often one of my strikers that I am heading back to get.
Gear is out, checked, rechecked in March. I have lists for every season, and I check off and make sure I have everything I need. My motto is you can't over-prepare.....
As others have said, I check and recheck and I pack extra stuff in my bags that I put in my truck including an extra gun in a case. My Wife always said by the time season is over the back seat of my truck looks like a used sporting goods store with all the stuff. Usually after the season is over it takes me a good part of a day just to unpack the truck... LOL...
I'm with you Tom, in my opinion you can't have enough stuff with you while turkey hunting. Extras of everything... IMO
I try to load the truck the night before and load up my vest with the essentials but have had a few slip ups.
One hunt this year with my grandson I forgot to load my vest into the truck.
We scrounged through the truck and was able to find an Ol Besty Slate and striker and a couple of shells. Managed to put a hunt together but missed a few of my favorite calls.
I have a compact Leupold 7x20 Gold Ring binocular that I use for turkey hunting and have forgotten that a few times. I tend to lose things rather than forget them at home. I once left my favorite facemask at a kill and went back the next day to retrieve it. Also a good pair of gloves at a spot I was calling from. Same thing, I went back the next day and found them. I hope this does not continue as I hit Medicare age in May!
Forgetting to check the batteries in the flashlight ;D
Where and how I hunt, it ain't a good idea to try to climb these mountains in the dark without a working flashlight...been there, done that...and you don't get no T-shirt! :toothy12:
