Title: My Sweet 16 Ready for this spring!
Post by: Tom007 on February 20, 2023, 09:31:30 AM
Finally finished my Sweet 16. I found a good sling swivel set-up, installed it yesterday. Hard to find the barrel clamp stud for a 16 gauge, but I did. I used Mossy Oak Gun Skin camo in Bottomland, came out perfect. I have a Briley .600 Extended Non- Ported Turkey Choke and will be using Apex #7 TSS (1 5/8 oz), and Foxtrot's TSS #9 (1 7/8 oz). This gun has a 26 inch barrel with the Browning DS Choke System. I added a Meadow Creek mount and FF3 Red Dot. This gun weighs 5lbs 12 oz. Being a 2 3/4 inch gun, the felt recoil is very minimal, it handles unreal. I finished it off with a quick-release Vero-Vellini Sling. This will see action this Spring for sure! Be safe, it's right around the corner....

Very nice, was it a wood stocked gun to start with or synthetic?

Very nice. I have an older Belgium made Sweet 16's. I use it for dove and occasionally quail.

It is a wood stock. I tried to buy synthetic, but they don't make it. The gun skin doesn't harm the wood, in fact it protects it. Thanks...

Love it! That is a very well thought out rig.I plan on owning one some day. Maybe as a retirement gift to myself. Hard to beat a Browning for a quality firearm.

Nice looking gun.  Love my old Model 12 in 16 gauge.  Good luck this season.  Hope to see a hero shot with it and a bird.

Hi Dave, my wife helped me with a hair dryer. She is an artist, has very good skills trimming, and the patience of a saint. It looks like it was dipped. Be safe my friend.....

I'm not hunting mine this spring.  I built a new 28 gauge for myself to hunt with this season.  It was wood stocked as well and I did this mossy wraps on it too.

I got some new ammo from Foxtrot for my 16 yesterday. Got out to pattern it. It is 2 3/4 # 9 with 1 7/8 oz load. I only had to fire one shot. I am very happy with it......will be in the field this spring....

Fantastic patterns, the gun looks great too. I know I used to have 16 gauge turkey loads from Federal in stock where I managed but I haven't seen any in years up here, I would love to add a 16 gauge to the collection and I can actually use it for turkeys as well.

I know but they do not ship out of country, and I have not found a single company up here that is making tss shells. I could always learn to roll my own, I have actually looked a few times for a decent 16 gauge the last year, lots of beat up cooeys and old guns, I want a newer gun. You did a great job with yours. Special gun for sure.

If I can load TSS shells, ANYONE can do it!! I loaded TSS BB for my son to hunt deer with! The hardest part is finding the components you need in stock!

I love the look of that wrap. Is the material easy to work with? Do you need 2 people?

It is very easy to work with. Take your time, use a hair dryer (a forum member gave me this advice). I'll confess, my wife who is patient and artistic helped me, and did all the exacto trimming.....It does come out as if it was dipped, and can easily be removed with no harm to the guns finish.....

Well, I found a Gobbler far into a ridge last week. ONX plotted him almost 4 miles in. I decided to take my Sweet 16 on this long trek, I never harvested a bird with it since I only took it out a few times. Yesterday I took a fine Mountain gobbler with it. It dropped him in his tracks. The gun weighs 5.12 pounds, carrying it in and out was a dream. I think this is now my gun of choice, it weighs nothing, shoulders well and is a dream to shoot. Recoil is almost nothing. If your looking for a lightweight sub gauge gun that performs real well, don't count out the 16 gauge. It will see the woods a lot moving forward. Be safe, good luck!
