Title: Why no butternut pots?
Post by: bowbird87 on February 07, 2023, 01:00:58 PM
It's hard to argue that butternut makes a fine box, but why don't you see pots made from it?

Butternut makes for some really good pots.  Speaking with call makers over the years the consensus is that it's not a real pretty wood.  Larry Bean used it quite a bit when he was making calls and won a bunch of awards with them.

Looks. And if you don't think looks matter and it's only sound you're kidding yourself, just ask any call maker. But for friction, butternut rules and it's  native and has a subtle beauty, something to love.
