Title: Lathe Question?
Post by: rtsj on June 12, 2011, 12:54:27 AM
I've been playing around with the idea of picking up a wood lathe and do some playing around. Found a Ridgid WL1200 in excellent shape with couple tools and a 4 jaw chuck for 200 bucks. And a Craftsman 12 inch bandsaw that the head tilts to 45 degrees in great condition as well for 175. Are these good machines at decent prices? Thanks for the input. Roy

the craftsman bandsaw is a steal for that price. as for the lathe, i have never heard of a Ridgid, all of my tools are craftsman. I will have to look it up and get back to you one this one.

Of course I have heard of Ridgid! just took me a second to think. I just got done reading some great reviews on them. people say they turn nicely and have good speed controls. Also easy assamble and take down from what I have read. I would look into it more and read some reviews.

We had a Rigid lathe in the shop a few years back ,it had Moorse 1 Tapers
and used rails instead of having a cast bed. The 1" TPI spindel and
Moorse 2 seems to be more common and could save you from
retooling later on.
Just my thoughts.
