Title: Does Sassafras and Walnut Work?
Post by: Spring Creek Calls on June 10, 2011, 11:38:50 AM
Does sassafras and walnut work for a box call? I'm thinking sassafras for the box and walnut for the paddle.

ABSOLUTELY!!!  Sassafras makes a great box call.  I have 2 with purpleheart lids that sound great!  I have a butternut box with a walnut lid that sounds great as well.  I think the combination you mentioned would sound great.

Thanks Wendell! I may try one of each, walnut and purpleheart.

Those woods work great together and by themselves, solid walnut and solid sass make great sounding calls.

I've done some solid walnut in both short and long boxes and really like the sound of both. Just never played with the sassafras before. Sounds like I better try some. Thanks!
