Title: 3 vs 3.5 tss
Post by: RiverRoost on March 31, 2022, 01:57:09 PM
When I'm out of my 4/5/7 blend of nitros I'm debating ordering some tss for my 12. Would it best to go with a 3" over a 3.5"?

Your shotgun and choke will tell you. My 870 liked the 3.5 better.

I went with 3" apex #9's. You are able to get 2 1/4oz loads in 3" so you are really only giving up a 1/4oz compared to the 3.5". The 3" are cheaper and id imagine less recoil. But as stated earlier each gun likes something different.

I have the 2.25oz #9's in 3"...the recoil is ridiculous. The patterns are great.

Honestly 3" are all you need. I actually shot some 2 3/4 two ounce loads and got great patterns.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220401/3ac7db5d81f3eb2bf2203bd42dde0ec6.jpg)

Averaging 345/10 with 2.75" 1&5/8 oz handloaded 9s. Recoil is very tolerable. I personally consider any more shot than that to be a waste of money. So in answer to your question, I would prefer 3" to 3.5 and 2.75" over either of those.

I'm also a fan of the 2-3/4" TSS in 12 gauge. Multiple places to buy them from 2oz to 1-5/8oz, that's alot of #9's. May be summer before they're available though.
