Lucked into an old geezer's (me) osceola on 3/11 during a limited draw Florida quota hunt. Now it was time for our annual opening day (3/19) north zone Florida hunt. For the past 17 years we have been blessed to have access to a private land cypress swamp. Our access is for opening day only. It usually gives up one. This day it gave up a buddy double. Set up in a full moon and heard some tree gobbles. Then silence. Then approaching gobbles. On this property we use a Primos Jake Mobile, a Funky Chicken, and one Avain X Breeding Hen. A group of hens drifted by then two red heads appeared in the trees. They walked into sight, saw our decoys, and rushed right in. My friend shot the first with his 12ga and number 6 Hevi. As it flopped the second bird spurred him then turned his attention to Funky. I discouraged him with my .410 and Ninja 9 1/2. Great day. My Florida season complete. We'll have plenty of trips left to get my friend's second bird. We both keep plugging away at 75 and 70 years of age. Whew! Who would have thought. This was a much easier hunt than the 3/11 quota that required a mile plus walk in and a mile plus walk out with an additional 17#.
More pictures but I'm all resized out.
Very nice. Congratulations to you both
