My father has a model 12. It'll only take 2 3/4" shells.
He's shot Winchester super X forever but we'd like to step up to something a little better for ammunition this year.
Apex is sold out of everything. I can't find 2 3/4 TSS or heavyweight In anything else.
Anyone know any other options I'm missing for better 2 3/4" ammo.
Send Wilson's Custom Loads a message on Facebook or give them a call, their number is on their web page. They had 35 boxes or so of 12ga 2 3/4" #9 when I ordered 3 boxes. They are taking orders by check or money order until they can get a company to do their online sales. First company backed out of them in the middle of their pre opening sale when they found out they were selling ammunition.

:morning:
A few years back I patterned some Remington Nitro 2.75" x 4's thru my 12 and got 73 in the 10 at 40 yds. Not a ton but more than adequate to kill a rooster... :camohat:
get ahold of Foxtrot ammo, he loads 2.75" tss and I think he also has lower pressure loads for older guns
Nice patterning loads
Winchester does still make 2-3/4 long beard XR or Rooster XR (same load as far as I can tell).
It's not new-fangled TSS but it patterns decent in older fixed choked 2-3/4 guns in my experience. Not sure how old your father's Model 12 is but it's not always recommended to shoot TSS through older guns. To each their own.

Winchester Super Pheasants are dang good patterning "plain" loads, if you can find any.

Is it a fixed choke or screw-in?

Fixed choke. And the barrel is either 30 or 32" long.

If anyone sees where this becomes available please post it. I can't find any other TSS in 2 3/4.

go on foxtrotammo website and call him up, he has a good 2.75 12 gauge load
I shoot Foxtrot Mini Twisters in my Model 12. 2-3/4" shell with 1-5/8 ounce of 8.5's. They're a bit easier on the old gun and deadly on the turkey.

Fixed choke. And the barrel is either 30 or 32" long.
I stopped turkey hunting my Model 12 years ago because of the 32" barrel. I agonized over reducing the barrel (to 26") and adding choke tubes. I finally did it and am really glad I did. Now I'm hunting it again with the Mini Twisters.
