i've used a 12 ga ever siince i've turkey hunted but after seeing my cousin lay the smackdown on a gobbler at 40 yards with 3" 20 ga shells and the load is lighter for hustlein' through the hills and hollar to get set up on the next ridge might have to try a 20 this season..what do y'all use
I use a MB 835 12 gauge, but the 20s on here are awesome. Shooting Federal HW #7 or Hevi13 #7 with a .555 or .570 choke, guys are getting awesome patterns. One is using a Hastings .564 (?) and getting great numbers as well. So, IMHO going to a 20, you will not lose any thing.
ol lady uses a remmy 870 20 ga...great gun shes killed 3 turkeys with it no prob :z-guntootsmiley:..she has been using hevi #6 and #5..bought some hw #7 anxious to try!
12 for me
I use a Mossberg 12 ga but my brother when he was little back years ago killed turkeys with a break action single shot 20 ga, and that was with no choke and 2 3/4" shell. Those were the days haha.
If you pattern well a 20 will do just fine.
I use both. I got into the 20 gauge world last season and killed 2 nice birds with it.
I have used the 12 since I started, but I am jumping into the world of the 10 ga. I have one ordered and can't wait for the project to start..Kaaboom.... :icon_thumright: Mike
I use an 11-87 Sportsman in 12 gauge
12ga browning BPS for me.
I switched to a 20 last year and have no regrets .

Is this for when they are on the roost, or when you are on NWTF land leaning out your truck window....... ;D
Hmmm. What would you guess?

Both. Nothing like shooting them of the limb while listening to Free Bird on the radio.
I guess I'll shoot my 3 1/2" 12 until they come out with a 4" 12.
I use them both. :icon_thumright:
This will be my 3rd season with my NEF 20ga. I haven't even thought about humpin' the 12ga Remmy 870 around since I switched. Just under 5.5# vs. just over 9# (both w/optics)...178 pellets in 10" @ 40 from the 20ga vs. 204 from the 12ga...for the minor pellet difference, I'll go w/ the 20ga all day long. I hunt woods birds on public land that varies from steep to really steep to friggin' vertical! I love that little thumper :z-flirtysmile3:.
Be safe, grab a 20 & have a great season,
Nathan
I don't have anything against 20 gauges, but I like my Browning Silver NWTF 3.5 12 gauge. I slayed 4 with "Ol Moses last year......

I have a Mossberg 835 that I have used for years and still will use it from time to time, but I have set up my son's 870 youth to try it for turkeys and the rest is history
I love that light and handy gun,it don't shoot to bad either
12 but many here use 20
I used a 12ga ever since I started hunting turkeys. Last year after season was over I bought a Remington 870 20ga. The 20ga patterns awesome and it will be the only gun I carry to the woods this year.

I used my 20 for one bird and my 12 for another last year, but this year the 20 is the dedicated turkey smasher. I've got it setup with a red dot, an Indian Creek choke and some TSS 9's, my pattern from this setup blows away anything I've had from the 12 or with the 20 last season
i too am a 12 to 20 ga convert, tss has made that possible. i don't feel like i am handicapping myself at all.
what Hal said!!!! ;D
