I don't think they do much to sound.I can't answer for Seth's design.The call doesn't sound muffled .The flutes may be to make it unique. It's a really cool little call!

Got this  unique tube today from Seth.Its # 2 with 1 being the prototype. I love revolvers , so I had to have it when I saw it.Thankfully, Seth agreed to sell it to me.
