Title: Virginia 2023
Post by: mtns2hunt on March 08, 2023, 05:55:43 PM
Rain a few days back brought a couple gangs out in the field, probably 30 or 40 birds. Did not seem to interested in Gobbling as I only heard one.

I usually hear them gobbling in the morning around this time but its been silent. They are here.. I see fresh scratching, sign and turkey around the farm but it's starting out slow this year for me.

I hunt VA (Clarke CO.) and WV (Jefferson and Berkeley) this year I saw lots of turkeys on the field of the farm in Berkeley CO. and heard only a few gobbling but maybe one time and nothing.  Oddly,  back a couple weeks I saw 7 longbeards in a group and 5 jakes in a group in the foeld of the farm but not a sound on the roost.  I have been after these guys since 1975 and this is the worst year I have experienced.  I got one turkey on the farm that was an ambush job.  No gobbling or anything, he just walked past with buddies within range.
