If you could only choose one longbox, what would it be? It will be a ride in the truck during the hunt call. And a display on my flytying desk the rest of the year.
A wait period is 0 concern.
Hope everyone is having a safe and successful season!!

SSCustom long box
I have had a Billy Bush ( beggin machine ) since 2008. Loud or soft , hen or jake or gobbler I don't think you can find a better long box in my opinion
I love the looks and sound of my Ernie Fetters Longbox.

I have a DH that I really like.
SS custom calls from AL and Josh.... I have several long box calls from various makers and there long box is my favorite!!! They sound phenomenal and are very easy to run. That makes a big difference because some long box's are tough to run you really have to get used to them but Al's is the easiest I've ever run and sound amazing.... I actually go to the woods every day with their long box. I've got to where I use it more than a short box anymore.
I just bough 2 from Ed Terefencko and both sound great.
Don't forget Don Watkins & TJ Johnson. Every wood combo I've heard, from both of them, all sound & run pure turkey.
Steve Mann
Steve Mann. Ernie Fetters. Lamar Williams
Don Watkins, Ernie Fetters, Russell Beard and a gentleman who's name I can't recall right now but many will remember his video that had the word Lightning i.n the title. There is a picture of him and I think Don Williams sitting together and one has a card up that says Advise $1.00 the other had a card that says Good Advice $1.50 hoping someone can help me this name. Edit: Ralph Snodgrass is who I was trying to remember.

Right now I would say my TJ Johnson canarywood/butternut or Scott Witter bloodwood/butternut. Best one I've played but not own was Tim Bullocks first place snakewood/butternut at Nashville 2022 it was a smoker.

Billy White has sold a few of his cackle boxes on EBay here lately . I have one with a Purple Heart lid and it sounds really nice . I typically use it more on windy days as it is louder than my go to call but it sounds nice when calling softer .
Steve Mann Cedar over Yellow Poplar. I also have Mann Cedar over Black Walnut that is a close second.

Think your thinking of Ralph Snodgrass Steve. I only have a few longboxes Rick Harro, Steve Mann, Lonnie Mabry and Ernie Fetters all make great ones IMO.

Yep, that's who it was, thanks. I could have sworn I had edited that in there.
Thanks for all of the replies. I ended up ordering a box from Mr Fetters. His choice on wood. Looking forward to playing it!
In no particular order , Marlin, Jeff Mckamey or Ernie Fetters

You will NOT be disappointed !!!! :icon_thumright:
Ernie is among the elite masters of longbox building/tuning.
I got one in the mail from Jeff Mckamey yesterday and it is killer. Bloodwood over butternut.
I am not that experienced with a long box but I found it to be super easy to play.

Jeff's boxes are outstanding. And built by a good guy, too.
I have an Ernie fetter that makes a whole lot of turkey sounds
