Indiana's opener is this coming Wednesday and the forecast doesn't look to promising. Temps look like there gonna be around 40 for a high. How would you guys go about hunting this kind of weather? How does it affect turkey behavior? Anybody have any luck in extremely low temps and 10+ winds ? I'll take any tips you guys can give.
Thanks

If the sky is clear the birds will probably be gobbling like crazy. It honestly doesn't affect them much at all. The wind sucks and makes it hard to hear and might have the birds down out of the wind but other than that it's hunting as usual

I'm in Indiana, and the only thing it should effect is me having to put on more clothes. I'm thinking about dressing normal and taking the heater body suit in the early morning. Don't think it will change the birds. They need a mate no matter the temp. :)
Dress warm!!! And do what works for you in normal spring weather turkeys up north are used to cold weather so it doesn't bother them, as much as it does the hunter's.
Layer your clothing like it's deer season and get after 'em!
I was just telling my son last night that the temps during turkey season in Mississippi are colder than the temps during deer season!
Snow and rain can make a little tuff but if it's just cold and breezy you should have a good hunt if you're where the birds are.. Good luck to ya
I have had great hunts at 29 degrees.
If you could only get lucky a month out of the year would a little cooler weather and some wind slow you down?
Put on warn cloths, you have waiting all year for spring opener... go after him...
East facing slopes in holy terrain, they will be soaking it hearts if it's clear and cold!
I like sub freezing mornings, typically clear and still for the first couple hours anyway.

Birds around here don't seem to mind. It was cold, windy, and starting to spit snow when I shot one this morning. They're just harder to hear when I'm having to wear two hoods to stay warm. ;)
I've had very good luck on cold mornings that are clear. I'd setup on pine tree roosts if you know any already, that's helped me find them on windy nights

If I remember correctly Indiana youth weekend last year started out sub 40's and snow. Was 60 and sunny by the afternoon. Birds gobbled like crazy at daybreak, came down and went in the opposite direction from where we were...... seemed like normal bird behavior to me.

I am going to hunt just like normal. Calling for 1 to 2 inches now in good old Madison IN.
Don't put all your warm clothes on right away in the mourning. Put them in the back of your vest, tie them around your waste, or what ever. Wait until you get to your destination to put the outer layers on. You'll perspire less especially if you have a long distance to travel. Your under layers will be dryer and you'll stay warmer through out the day.
The wind will be the bigger issue than the cold. I don't think cold snaps affect where they are in their cycle. It's not like gobblers break off hens if it snows, or hens break off nests when it's cold. The cycle is pretty straight forward. Whatever they were doing today they'll likely be doing in a few days. I think wind and rain affect them a lot more than cold snaps. Studies show they tend to gobble more on cold mornings than when it's hot. When they're on and going it's hard to knock them off that pattern.

Headed to Black Hills in 2 weeks. Seems it'll be pretty cold 34 - 50. Good to hear that it's not to much to worry about. Maybe first time I hunt them in snow.

Killed a big gobbler once after a snowstorm on mother`s day. Came in quiet. Get out and hunt! Good luck!
