I'm thinking about turning my own pots and strikers. Besides a lathe and good tools, what else do I need to begin?

From what I've read, most people seem to also have a bandsaw and a drill press.

I would add some type of dust collection system if you want to enjoy your new hobby for many years  ;D.  If you use traditonal turning tools you will need some way to sharpen them.  Bandsaw is helpful for minimizing waste in getting blanks as well as milling your own lumber from logs.  You can easily spend 2-3 times what a mini-lathe costs in lathe chucks, accessories, and turning tools.  A very good hobby but by no means is it a way to acquire calls economically.  Good luck and enjoy.
