I bought a bunch of old slate shingles does anyone know if these are good for making calls or not?

Thanks

You can get pre-cut slate from Penn Big Bed Slate for under $1.50 each.  The work involved in cutting/splitting shingles isn't worth the extra effort to me.

I have seen old slate shingles used as a neat "canvas" for paintings of wildlife, etc.

yep, I agree with Wendell, I have a box (65-70) lbs., and I am going to use it for painting and laser work. I have split it and sanded it down to make a couple jet calls, but that is it.
