General Forum / Re: Jakes on accident...
Last post by ChesterCopperpot - Today at 10:52:38 PM
Quote from: Dhamilton1 on Today at 05:46:05 PMBeen hunting for 4 years now and killed my first bird ever this year in WV and he was a Jake. He had a funny gobble from a distance but when he got closer, he sounded like any other I've heard gobbling in the woods (maybe untrained ears still). He let out one last heart pounding gobble at about 50 yards and when his head popped out above the log he came in from behind, I didn't think twice. I was actually surprised when I grabbed him off the ground but still happy nonetheless. Cut off his short 3" beard, stubby almost none existent "spurs" and have his tail fan pinned to card board and boraxed in the garage.

Congrats! Sounds like a great hunt, and I'd about bet one you'll never forget. Be proud of him. Any bird that plays the game.

Found enough suicidal gobblers to get me through this year. Fixing to start planting summer food for the deer and turkeys and vacations with Wifey. And some fishing. Just passing the time till next year.

Moved on to flatheads and such. I'll gig some frogs and hunt mushrooms as summer comes on. Work in the garden. Start fooling with deer setups. Stay fooling with yelpers.

Nope. Mine is green, but I keep mine super low in low light and up the brightness with daylight like was said. Great sight.

Box Calls / Re: Glued Box
Last post by Yoder409 - Today at 09:35:56 PM
From 1990 until 2016, I used ONE (glued) box call for 100% of my hunting.  It was not because I didn't have some really nice, non-glued boxes from some really recognizable names.  It was because this call was......and to this day still is.......absolute DEATH on turkeys.  around 2017, I started to take a different call out here and there.  But my old Hally Caller Deluxe Box has caused more gobblers to die than all the other boxes I've ever used combined......by, probably a factor of 5X.

I've got a good many other glued boxes I'd not hesitate a second to take to the woods.  Calls by:

Lynch
Doug Camp
Kip Feroce
Quaker Boy
Dale Rohm/Rohm Brothers
Ashby
Ben Lee

The list is longer than that......
