Title: 870 super mag 20" barrel
Post by: nickhrp on March 24, 2013, 02:50:47 AM
This is what my 870 with Winchester supreme 3.5" 2oz 4,5,6 shot did at 35 yds with stock remmington choke is this a good pattern?

Looks like it will do. Need a better picture of the target though.

Yeah it will kill, but if you truly want to see your pattern, your going to need to shoot at a much larger target. I try to save large cardboard boxes and tape em to old election signs.

That will definitely work. It looks like it might be low but I'm not sure where you were aiming. Try a piece of large paper or card board 30"x30" at leas .  Put a aiming stop dead center and shoot at it. Now find the densest part of your pattern and put a 10" circle around it.Put your target at 40 yds also.

Which size shot is that?  If I am reading you right that could be 3 shots LOL.

I so think you are low but it looks like you have a decent # of pellets on target unless the holes in the white part are from other shots.  I would try moving your pattern up and see.  It appears that you have some pretty good gaps as is.  You might need to try another choke for a more even pattern.

At 35 yards, most all patterns look great.  Put that thing at 40 and you will see it drop off some.  Nothing wrong with that, you just need to know your range for the load you plan on hunting with.  Don't assume it will still look that good at 40....But, all I see there is a dead bird!
