Just a place for us to post our kills.
Killed a jake yesterday. I'll get some pics up when I get home from camp
Here's the pic
Looks like some good ol' fried turkey breast to me.. Good job.
:thanks: and yes I smell grease popping
I use to do a little turkey hunting up around coushatta. They had a pretty good population up that way.
I took this one in kisatchie on public land/national forest. I'll be going to my lease tomorrow looking for a longbeard
Oh yeah, I know exactly where that is, worked all around that area on drilling rigs. Winnfield, saline all the way back into Ruston. Good luck to ya. I might not even go in the morning here, it's suppose to be 28°
nice job, eric. congrats :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:
you southern boys are killin me
i still got 20 days til season opener :turkey2:
Well the bad thing is that as of right now I don't have another I one that's gobbling. I saw 5 Jakes yesterday and 3 this morning. So I will be going to just listen for one to start gobbling.
The one I killed yesterday he gobbled 4 times on the limb and 3 on the ground. He was coming in to me and 7 hens cut him off. I went back yesterday evening and got there about 4:30 eased in and set up. About every 15-20 min I would call lightly at 5:30 I heard him gobble and right after that I got the sudden urge to take a leak. About 6:10 I couldn't take it anymore I eased up on my knees and proceeded to handle my business. About the time I got finished I heard a one drum. I peaked out around the tree and the hens spotted me and took off. They flew up in a tree about 75 yards and started trying to check and see what moved, I thought I blew it. I already had got the gun back in my hands by then, I just stayed still and was prepared to stay like that until dark. Well with nothing to loose I decided to take my hands and rake in the leaves. Well time I did, it wasn't 10 sec. I heard him drum again and saw him easing toward me. I let him come on in until I had a good shot and them I let the old 835 eat with a 3.5-2-5 turkey thug @ around 20 steps . It wiped him out.

Nice bird congrats! :icon_thumright:
got my second tom yesterday
it was raining but i slipped on the rain gear and off i went
was soaked to the bone after a long walk in and when the rain stopped shortly after i got to my tree, water continued to drip off the big oak and run down my back. fortunately, it was in the low 60s, so it wasnt too bad
finally started to get light and i could see birds in the trees around me. as i continued to sit absolutely motionless, i could see a long beard swinging in the wind but when he tried to fan on the limb a gust would about knock him out of the tree.
not a gobble on the roost, and as it was creeping toward sunrise, it was still dark, hazy and gloomy. but then two birds pitched out and lit about 60 yards down the hill from me. the anticipation intensified as i thought, "must be hens, that big tom will fly down next."
but then i could make out beards, nice beards, so i gave a soft yelp on a Gooserbat Hillbilly, one of them responded with the day's first gobble and they both came up the hill right to me, and the one with the longer beard took a mud nap.
was a 3 year old that had sharp 1 1/16 spurs, 9.5 beard but only weighed 20 and scored 60.25
Congrats, that's a fine looking bird. I guess I am not going to be able to upgrade my entry in the contest. Today is the last day of season, so now the count down begins to next March 15.
Well opening week and weekend came and gone for me. No bird for me. However I spent time with my old man in the turkey blind and he was fortunate enough to smack and indiana bird at 930. Gobbled half a dozen times before coming in. Best part was getting it all on film.
20 lb bird 12.25" beard and 20 mm spurs. The longbeard #5 put a thump on him at 30 yards. What an awesome feeling to share a blind with my old man. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/02/5ajuse4y.jpg)
congrats hoosiers. thats one heck of a beard
Congrats that's a big rope

Used my last tag today on a small two year old so no upgrade from Kentucky. What a fun hunt though. He was in a food plot about four hundred yards away with a hen. I closed the distance to about 200 yards and started calling. He cut me off right away and started strutting right for me. Got to watch him the whole way. I shot him at 40 paces. He put on quite a show.
Congrats! Let us know when you get the video up. Would love to see it.
