Alright guys I done all I know to do at the moment can't wait to see the birds start coming in
If anybody has any suggestions on anything about our team threads and etc send me a pm and I can give you my phone# I have noticed some teams have banners I have no clue how to do that so anybody that does feel free to come up with something and we all can agree on one looking forward to this with . All of y'all
We still have 1 open spot if anybody knows somebody and hope all current team members confirms with me so I can finalize the roster and submit to administrators I see teams have co-captains be nice to have a couple but as long as we help each other out we can rock this contest I know we have novice hunters veteran hunters and two experienced excellent call makers and probably a rookie or two but best of luck to everyone look forward to this and hope with this competition I can learn alot from y'all
Thank you nick
God bless the outdoors

yeah that thunder chicken would been in my living room for everyone to see lol that's a nice bird and some fat hooks
I'm hoping to tag out and if I do gonna use one fan so mark sanchez ( my strut decoy) can get a new fan job
Sounds like a plan. How many are all of you allowed to kill. I hope I can tag out but it's not likely.. In AL we can take up to 5 spring gobblers. In MS a can take 3. That's hard to do in a 45 day season. If I get 5 between the 2 I will be happy.
I'll be hunting at least three states and tribal land. 3 in OK, 2 in KS ans 2 in MO. There is no bag limit on tribal land so in theory I could kill and kill and kill but I usually limit myself to one bird. So that's 8

3 is the max in illinois
i have thought about heading out of state for more fun, but the wife says our budget wont allow it :( ;D
dang, didnt know you could get 5 in alabama. no wonder those guys dominate the team contest; thats a lot of chances to upgrade your bird's score

The only thing bad about it is our birds don't weight allot. The average longbeard will only weight around 14-15 lbs. 19-20lbs. is a big one.
wow, didnt realize that. must run themselves ragged chasin the ladies :turkey2:
we've got fat, cornfed butterballs up here
most 2 year old toms are 22-23 pounds. i've shot a couple longbeards that weighed 26
One area I hunt in SE Oklahoma it's not uncommon for 3-4 year old toms to weight 17 -18 pounds but you might just as well kill a 22 pound bird out of the same area.
Dang I'm jealous. Here in indiana we can kill 1 bird and that's it. Last years bird went 24 lbs. 10.5" beard and right at about an inch spurs. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/09/yqugereg.jpg)
Hey nickhrp When do we officially on paper get our name changed to Choot'em N-D Face instead of Team C
pretty sure we have to submit our team and roster in the team registration thread and be officially approved before that can happen
we lost a member, but i pm'd someone on the random thread and we are waiting for his reply
nice lookin bird there, hoosier2 :funnyturkey:
we are counting on you to shoot his twin this year ;D
Of we don't have it filled or if the one you sent the pm to doesn't respond. I have a friend of mine that is joining OG as we speak, he wants to be on a team.
Submitted name and banner to admin so it should be changed soon
That's good news.. I can't wait for next Saturday.
There it is.. Looks allot better than team c..

I was playing around with the gobbler score calculator and my two birds from last year scored a 73 and 75 hopefully I can repeat that
(http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/s547/nickhrp/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/FC60447D-09A8-4554-B962-A62F4844DE04_zpsw0celg86.jpg) (http://s1305.photobucket.com/user/nickhrp/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/FC60447D-09A8-4554-B962-A62F4844DE04_zpsw0celg86.jpg.html)
My biggest was 66 last year, our birds down here lack big time in the weight category. I just hope I can take a few.
those are nice toms in anybody's book
weight obviously is important but each pound only counts 1 point. where scores really go through the roof are with multiple beard birds. total beard length is multiplied by 2 and spur length x 10.
as an example, here's how my best tom added up last year...
11.25 beard x 2 = 22.5 points
1.75 spurs x 2 = 3.5, then x 10 = 35 points
25.5 pounds = 25.5 points
nwft score = 83
i have seen multi-beard birds rack up 50-60 points on beard length alone
Man I hope one of mine is a double then
(http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/s547/nickhrp/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/FC60447D-09A8-4554-B962-A62F4844DE04_zpsw0celg86.jpg) (http://s1305.photobucket.com/user/nickhrp/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/FC60447D-09A8-4554-B962-A62F4844DE04_zpsw0celg86.jpg.html)
If I can just keep killing mature birds I'm happy. Keep doing that all season and you'll end up killing a 70 pt+ tom.
That's the way I am I love to kill 4 year old birds. But I promise I will not hold back on a 2 year old. I will shoot a 2 year old faster than you can bat an eye.
I'd let any longbeard ride in my truck
Big hooks and a longbeard it's going down

That just absolutely sucks. I hate poachers. Our resident licenses are, I feel, pretty high here in TN. Sometimes I think I'd pay more if it went to hiring more game wardens.
I'm right on the middle to western tn border right on the river and there not cheap in my unit

had 1 good, 1 not so good scouting missions the last couple days
checked out my new spot monday afternoon and saw 7 toms. walked up on 2 longbeards along a ridge above a creek that i suspected to be a good roost spot and they just stood there, 25 yards away and i wasnt even wearing any camo. :turkey2:
checked out my no. 1 place this morning where i have shot lots of toms and heard a crazy number of gobbles but nary a peep on my side of the creek. all the birds were still in a big winter flock about a quarter mile away on an outfitter property.
hopefully, they break up soon because this is my traditional opening day spot :turkey:
Well, I shot my first bird with the Winchester longbeards today.. Looks like they done what they were suppose to do at 35 yards.
Wow. I'm guessing not much flopping. What size shot? 3 or 3.5 inch?
Look like a claymore got him
(http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/s547/nickhrp/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/FC60447D-09A8-4554-B962-A62F4844DE04_zpsw0celg86.jpg) (http://s1305.photobucket.com/user/nickhrp/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/FC60447D-09A8-4554-B962-A62F4844DE04_zpsw0celg86.jpg.html)
3.5 #6. This was the first one I shot with the longbeards so I was just curious as to what the neck looked like..
Oh and yes he still tried to beat the crap out of me..
holy moly! yeah, i'd say they did the job
i almost bought a box of longbeards awhile back but the place i stopped at only had them in 4s and 6s, and i have always shot 5s though my gun, so i got xx 5s instead.
wish i had gotten the LB 6s :fud:
HOLY CRAP!!!!! :newmascot: Congrats!!!
Well I wanted the 5's also but they were sold out of them had 4 and 6 so that's why I got the 6's. Looking at some of these #on here I might try a box of 4's.
I was also going to show y'all the spur. I don't know what's wrong with it. Kind of looks like the bottom half was splitting apart. Have you all ever saw one split like this?

Yeah I killed one bout 10 years back that was kinda like that...Congrats on the kill.
Thanks, buddy.. That's the first one I ever saw busted like that.
It's very quite in here I guess you all are out killing turkeys.
Wish I had something to report. :-\ Hunted Sunday in TN and didn't see or hear a bird. Neither did 3 of my buddies. One guy on the lease shot a jake that came into his decoys but he didn't hear any gobbling either. This weekend I'll be in KY for the opener. Fingers crossed.
yeah, it has been very quiet in here, but i think a lot of guys are going to be hunting soon
i start monday :turkey2:
but i think it might be tough early based on scouting. i have been trying to keep tabs on several places and some days they gobble, other days no. weather-wise, its way behind schedule, woods are wide open, not a hint of green.
at least the winter flocks are starting to break up
still, its gonna be great to finally get back at em :gobble:
I have one bird on 3000 acres that's gobbling his butt off. I haven't heard anymore.. But he still has a pile of hens with him.. I think the next time I hunt him I am going to get up and run at the hens and scare them off as soon a they fly down. Then see if I can do anything with him. I called him away from them twice so far.. One time I called him into 55 yards and the other at 70. Both times I called him away from the hens with the haint.. Our woods are greening up about 2 weeks behind normal.
Good luck to you guys just starting your seasons. Ours ends Sunday but I'm without tags so I've been working and fishing lately.
Need some setup help. Got to lease early and checked out a couple food plots. One had a ton of sign and I saw 5 hens there. Another I checked out when I first got there had little sign. But on the way out there were 4 hens with a nice longbeard in tow. I watched all of them from a distance with binos and none were spooked off.
Which one should I sit in the AM? We'll have lot of people here for opening day and want to stake my claim sooner than later.
If you put him to bed you know where he's at
i'd definitely set up on the plot where you saw the tom, if you dont try and roost him
a tom with his hens are likely in a daily routine and should show up close to that same location again
Hey guys we need to keep the harvested bird thread clean for kill pics and measurments only so administrators don't have to scroll through comments for score info and such

ha. had me goin too. ;D glad i checked in before headin out again
birds are finally startin to work up here. had several close call the past 2 days.
had a nice longbeard comin in yesterday before a cuttin hen cut him off :angry9:
Good luck too ya.. I have been thinking about not even killing anymore this year because our bird numbers are down so low. I have took 3 I guess that's enough. I am going to go to another area I haven't been this year and see what's going on over there. But I road all over my lease and it's 3000 ac. and I heard 2 birds
scored a nice tom this morning on a classic off the roost hunt. :z-guntootsmiley:
took a little while to work him off his sidehill strut zone up onto the flat where i was set up
3 year old that should top 60 for score. :turkey2:
havent done any measurements. double checking on what all i need for pix for contest
Nice Job, Congrats. I still have one more week to wait. ???
Good job.. Congrats on the kill.
Congrats can't wait to see the pics

This morning as I was sitting in the woods waiting to get off from a 14 hour night shift I had the joy of listening to 3 gobble off the roost and 1 stayed gobbling an hour after he flew down. I bet he fired off 50 times.
What happened to Team Alabama? No longer listed anywhere.
I'm not sure.
thats strange. maybe they picked up their trophy and went home :o ::)
Tom,
You and Nick may have to make some adjustments to the team scores, we may have just took the lead. HMMMMM....
thats really bizarre about alabama disappearing. they were there when i checked in this morning
could be a computer glitch ... i doubt anyone other than administration has the power to nuke entire team threads ???
There still there but every time I try to open there threads I get a domain error it's probably just a glitch ain't that lucky me and the guys that ain't onboard yet just gonna have to hunker down and start bringing in some turkzillas
(http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/s547/nickhrp/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/FC60447D-09A8-4554-B962-A62F4844DE04_zpsw0celg86.jpg) (http://s1305.photobucket.com/user/nickhrp/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/FC60447D-09A8-4554-B962-A62F4844DE04_zpsw0celg86.jpg.html)
Y'all will get them.. We don't need but 4 but birds. It seems our turkeys are just now getting cranked up down here, I heard 7 this morning on a place I haven't been but once this year. I had him at 60 on a clear cut this morning and I wouldn't take the shot. I think he might upgrade my bird if I can get him. I watched him walk off this morning with the binoculars looked like he had better spurs and I know his beard was better.
I got two more days till I get to home then it's two weeks of strait hunting but it's the last two weeks of our season and I'm surrounded by a couple big leases and afraid they gonna be pressured and quiet or maybe I will get lucky and they have pushed to my place cause I'm the only one there or suppose to already had one poacher incident before I went to work 26 days
(http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/s547/nickhrp/D630A612-EB9F-4179-B22F-F056269BC4CF_zpsbdokmoou.jpg) (http://s1305.photobucket.com/user/nickhrp/media/D630A612-EB9F-4179-B22F-F056269BC4CF_zpsbdokmoou.jpg.html)
I've been hunting hard and long for the last two weekends 6 days total and have not yet been able to seal the deal. Had one mid afternoon yesterday gobbling his head off and closing until a hawk with 50 crows in pursuit landed between me and him raising all kinds of hell. Last weekend I setup on a field and had one fly down at the opposite end. Was working my way but I didn't realize there were about 10 hens roosted right above me. I never knew they were there. I think they saw me raise the gun up and left the roost to the other side were the gobbler flew down. They left and he followed.
I'll be headed out for a 4 day weekend Thursday. I'm hoping to make a contribution to our score but this has been frustrating to say the least.
ej, nick, sonofabuck ... best of luck :anim_25:
go get em :fud: :OGani:

Make it happen Nick! Our youth day is tomorrow and season opens Monday. I will be after them all next week. I picked up a sweet shooting 11-87 day before yesterday, looks brand new, camo 26 " barrel, boy needed some cash so I bought for a sweet price.
I tried too but everything was working against me this morning bad weather set up on one first thing and he flew down the opposite way so had another gobbling but he had me pinned he was behind me couldn't move so he moved on then I was soak and wet so I went to the blind to get out of the rain and then the lone gobbler come through and locked up on at 75 yds and he set there for a hour strutting back and forth keep looking at my decoys but he seemed like he smelled a rat and moved in then a hour later came back through and didn't even look my way I don't know it was the most frustrating morning hunting I have ever had

Congrats to the wife nice bird!
Stay after them Tom, Good luck.
Here's my bird from this weekend. Hunting has been really slow for our area of KY. This was confirmed to us this weekend by a couple of pros. :thanks:  Ran into David Hale and Harold Knight this weekend, they were hunting a farm next to us, and they said the ice and late spring has really made hunting tuff. I was somewhat relieved to hear this as it just seemed we could do nothing right this year. I've got a few more hunts planned and hopefully I can upgrade a little.
Congratulations,
Very nice, Congrats!
Congrats

big congrats mrs. hill and mr. buck :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:
after 3 hard hunting days with lots of action but no score, finally pulled the trigger on my second tom this morning.
3 year old that i thought was gonna weigh 25 pounds after the long walk back to the truck, but he only weighed 20.
just ran his numbers with a 9.5 beard and 1 1/16 spurs that puts him at 60.25, so no upgrade but i'll take him.
permit no. 3 starts thursday
Missed a big one this morning absolutely disgusted

Good job Tom! :icon_thumright: Hoping you get that upgrade your looking for!
Oh man that sucks Nick. Keep after em!
Congrats Tom, way to go!
Well had a great day, but no bird. I heard 6 different gobblers this morning, 3 singles and 3 in one bunch. I got to with in about 75 yards of the 3, and they would not budge. They were just up above me on the ridge and were blowing the tree tops out. A bad storm started moving in thunder, lightning and heavy rain. So the birds dropped over the other side of the ridge and I headed home. Never heard a gobble till about 8 am but after that they turned it on. Be after them again tomorrow, 100% chance of rain though.
Stay safe Tom. We are getting some really nasty weather here in Chattanooga right now. I guess the same front headed your way tomorrow.

Weather was really bad in mid tn this morning it was raining so hard that the bird I missed I lost sight of him two different times at 50 yds high winds and lighting and tornado warnings but all you guys in the path of this storm system be safe

It's getting bad here right now again. I got on 2 this morning but out didn't work out. Went back this evening and watched them fly up
hunting in pouring rain, high winds, tstorms and even tornadoes ... something wrong with us turkey hunters :funnyturkey:

Hunted a couple hours this morning, got soaked, never heard a bird. Heavy rain right after daybreak, The rain has let for now goinghead back and try again.

I've found in the past that after a few days hunting it's best to give the birds some rest and try a new group of birds. As far as the deer if you need help let me know this fall ;)
Got another spot I'm gonna hunt the next four days maybe I can get something going there
(http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/s547/nickhrp/D630A612-EB9F-4179-B22F-F056269BC4CF_zpsbdokmoou.jpg) (http://s1305.photobucket.com/user/nickhrp/media/D630A612-EB9F-4179-B22F-F056269BC4CF_zpsbdokmoou.jpg.html)
Guys remember in turkey hunting many things go back to the adage of less is more. Be careful not to over hunt your spots.
Well like I said birds gobbled great Monday, but have shut down the last two days. We have had really bad weather, so I hope that is the reason. It is supposed to clear out tonight, hoping things improve tomorrow.
birds really off and on around here, but thats just turkeys bein turkeys, i guess ;D
monday, when i got one, not a gobble on the roost after a night of showers and wind, while a buddy hunting a couple miles away said they gobbled up a storm
headin out for season 4 (3rd tag) opener ... :gobble:
Got one will post as soon as I get him home

Congrats Nick, great bird! Well I hunted everyday this week and have not heard a bird since Monday. I have hunted my farm and 2 others and nothing. Sorry guys, I am still trying, I have till the 24th of May to try to score. I have talked to several people around here and hear the same thing, not many having any luck, very disheartening to say the least.
Well my birds have shut up on both places last three hunts have yielded nothing got two more hunts left maybe I will get lucky and get a upgrade but not looking good but good luck to you guys still chasing them

well, guys, i am done after striking out with my third permit. first unfilled a tag in a long time.
had 9 "close encounters" and should have scored. oh well, still great fun.
whats goin on with the rest of the team? theres several guys we havent heard from in a long time.
still hunting? season over and no bird?
I've been done since April 30 . All I can say is it has been fun, sorry I didn't get us a better scoring bird. Unfortunately, I hunted less this year than I have in a long time. I enjoyed hearing about all of the hunting trips and seeing all the kill pics.
My season was over Wednesday had to head back to work for a month but I enjoyed chatn and participating with y'all in this contest and hope you guys that's been quiet come up with a couple birds so we can finish strong

Heck yeah. Can't wait til next year. I don't know how my hunting will be next year but I'm looking forward to us keeping this team going. The land I have been hunting on for years, they are suppose to clear cut this summer. Well the way they talk about 1500 ac. Going to get cut.
been fun, guys, and it aint over yet
if we can come up with 2 more birds from our MIA teammates we could jump up to 2nd place
Today was the last day here in TN. I've come down with something and haven't left the house in a couple of days. So it looks like my season is over. Wednesday is the last day in GA but I will be working. Hoping we can add some birds and move up. Looking forward to next season. Would like to keep team going next year maybe adding some more active team members.
Well guys my season is over been one of my better ones got a couple good birds had some great hunts with my wife. She had the best season she ever had . I hope I did my part to help the team and would really enjoy being on the team next year . Maybe some of the other guys can pull out a couple more birds. Good luck to the rest that r still hunting

Well guys I have still not been able to help out, not a good season at all for me. This is the worst I can remember, birds just shut up and refuse to cooperate. This Saturday will probably be my last chance to hunt. I enjoyed being on the team and getting to know you guys. By some chance of fate if anything chages I will let you know.
Good luck to ya. Hope ya get you one.
Good luck TJK. Hope the weather and the birds cooperate for you.
