I thought some would like to hear what my nephew shared about his first turkey hunt with his dad:
"Well we heard some gobbling and then they got close but never within 30 yards.  That's all the further I can shoot so we had to let them go."

Be a lot less wounded birds out there if everybody in the woods were like this.
Whoever said you can't kill em from the couch never was good enough to call a gobbler into the living room

Love to hear stuff like that!  It's awesome knowing that kid is being brought up with respect for the game they chase.  I'm bringing up my boys the same way and they make me proud some days when we are in those hunting circles of family and friends and talk about similar things like what this thread is about.  Good for your nephew and his mentors!

it's not the harvest,it's the chase

Your nephew is going to turn out to be a heck of a hunter when he gets older. A lot of hunters should think and do as your nephew did on that mentored hunt. :firefighter:

Very refreshing post and excellent mentoring.
I have seen the posts where it is all about the kill. After spending $$$$ on a hunt and getting to see multiple birds in full strut but staying let's say 60 yards away for the last day of the hunt there is this compulsion that they must be shot at to get their money's worth. If that's what it is all about I would not be a turkey hunter for the past 50 years.
