Hey everyone. I am planning on getting an 870 youth model with a 21" pipe for my boy.
A buddy has an Indian creek 570 he wants to get rid of.
Though a magblend guy at heart with my 12, I am really eyeing up the federal tss loads in 8 or 9 shot. I want a good hunting pattern for a youth--not looking to break any pattern records. Just something reliable to 40 if the shakes happen! From what I remember--the 20 is roughly 1 hundredth off of a 12. Like a 670 in an 870 12 guage should produce reliable results, etc.
Thanks!

Forgiving pattern .572 Remington super full choke.. tighter patterns .555 Indian creek. The best load is a heavy load of tss #9's in the 1 5/8- 2oz range. There are lighter loads if recoil is an issue. Also hevi shot still make a light load of #7's that's 1.25oz.
That hevi 7 load in mine anyway likes the ssx choke and that load just goes pop with a lot less recoil than most.
anything in that 570-580 range will do what you want at 40 yards, with 9's.
Falling into the FWIW, category, my 870 with 26" barrel shoots about 150 Longbeard 6's in the 10 inch circle. My 870 youth with 21 inch barrel shoots 115 with that same choke, which is the Remington Turkey Choke .572.
If your buddy want's to sell his IC at 570 I'd be interested if its the non-ported model.
My son and I are both shooting 21" barrel 870s with hand loaded TSS #9. He is shooting a 570 Primos Tightwad, and I am shooting a 575 Carlsons. Both throw great hunting patters at 40 yards.
I'm shooting a Carlson .575, Federal TSS #9. Great even pattern out to 40 yards
I've got a youth 870 with a Remington super full in there and get 260 in 10" at 40! Great pattern and the gun is like carrying a feather.
I shot .550, .562 and .570. Mine threw the best pattern with the .570 with lead, h13 6's and HW 7's.
Thanks for the insight every! I will be taking that choke off my buddies hands!
