Title: Strutting and mating.
Post by: steelheadr on March 19, 2011, 05:05:40 PM
3/19. I look for turkeys all year.  I'm in the Rochester NY area and its still cold out here.  The snow left the ground this past week and this morning it was 32F.I haven't seen any strutting birds til this morning.  This one flock had 21 birds in it.  18 hens, 2 strutting jakes and a longbeard mating with a hen.  He was on top of her for at least 5 minutes (They were at it when I stopped)before they quit and ran to the flock. Is this breeding early for this far north and how long does copulation act last?

steelheadr,

Copulation is early that far north.  Copulation lasts about 3-5 minutes
