What's your favorite do all strikers? I know Rutland dymondwood is a common one. What else?
Personally I don't leave the house with out a snakewood, Rutland, or tulipwood. There are a lot of good options but those are My top 3. A lot of people like ipe purple heart is a northern good choice. But alot of it is just preference what sound are you looking to get?

I'm not after any particular sound. I play several different surfaces so looking for several strikers that play well on all surfaces. I have heard dymondwood, snakewood, and Ipe are good options. Also heard frogwood is good.
Standard Frogwood from Jeff Harrison at JLH strikers is a must have for a "do all".

I will add that to my list lol I'm curious what exactly sets certain strikers apart from others when they're made out of the same material? Is it striker shape, amount of material used(weight), tip shape?
that's a very good question........ i always wondered that myself.........
Tulipwood
Ipe
third would be a 3 way tossup between Persimmon, Black Locust and Hickory.

I've got an Ipe and snakewood coming to try out from Cross Road game calls. I'm not familiar with them but his strikers are very reasonably priced on ebay so I figure it's worth a try. The snakewood isn't highly figured but should give the same affect I'd imagine

He has different quality of strikers, he has one set that I would call a starter set which was the first set I had from him, they were decent for the most part, only one of them I did not care for. I have made I think 6 of his pot call kits now and a box call kit and all were very well done, he takes his time to answer your questions and is very polite while doing so. I have a better quality striker that came with a kit but I have never used it so I have no comment on that one other than if felt much better in my hands than that first set.

Well I guess we will see how they are when they get here. I do plan to pick up a couple JLH strikers once he's caught up on orders. Frogwood and something else, I haven't decided

Jeff is a nice guy and makes nice strikers.
Overall Jeff (JLH) makes my favorite strikers. But of all the custom strikers I have from Jeff, Fowler, Lyman, Brad Roberts etc. The one that never leaves my vest is a plastic top striker from Darrin Dawkins. It just sounds good on any pot you put it on.

I use David Halloran Dymond wood on my Ol Yeller and it sounds great. I like running JLH frogwood on my glass calls and on Halfords acrylic. It flat makes it come alive!
I do like dymondwood on my ceramic and slate. I'm definitely picking up a frogwood, just can't decide what else would be a good "all arounder" lol
No matter what kind of pot surface or striker I'm using, I always add
the JLH heavy cedar into the calling sequences. It turns every call into
a vastly different sound. Makes everything sound like a younger bird.
I'm a fan of trying to sound like a few different hens till they decide
they want to play.
Any time I pull out a pot & striker I'm also pulling out the heavy cedar
along with it. I haven't found another striker, yet, that makes that huge
of a sound difference, comparatively.
I like to have a change of sound...but I carry 3 pots to get those different sounds. I've started going toward more universal strikers opposed to very specific. Carry 3 pits and 5 or 6 strikers and you got a big ole in your vest.
So far I'm really liking:
Frogwood
Snakewood
Ipe
Mac ebony
From titanium to ceramic and everything in between those have been running for me.
I as well like to have a change of sound...but I carry 2 or 3 pots to get those different sounds. I carry approx 4 strikers to help will the different sounds.
My favorite and universal striker is a two piece that is tipped with Australian Buloke. I also carry dymond wood, dymalux, and black locust.
snakewood, webbwood, Diamondwood, bloodwood. Wood Wise weatherproof striker... In the snakewood, i will have 2 different builders and styles ... These strikers will do everything and more with the pots i carry ....
JLH.... Frogwood
Snakewood, dymondwood, tulipwood,Ipe an bloodwood. I rotate ipe an bloodwood

Strikers seem to be an easy turkey hunting tool to collect. I've got a pile of em.
The one that would hurt the most to lose would be a purpleheart from John Sinclair. No matter what surface I use it on it takes the pot to another level. I don't think it has anything to do with who made it or that purpleheart is the best wood. I think because at one time that wood was alive... My point is, not all "X" type of wood strikers sound the same. Some strikers are special and I think lots of types of wood strikers can be The One.

Indeed. I have favorites I reach for more than others. Haven't gotten around to use all in my collection but I'm working through it.

Webbwood
JLH Frogwood. This birch laminate striker will bring out the BEST in any call. A heavy Dymondwood striker would be my #2 choice.

Love my JLH Frogwood and Hickory as well. My calls don't seem to like the snakewood nearly as much. Dymondwood is still my first choice.
Dymondwood
Bloodwood
Lilac
Tulipwood
Yellow Heart
Purple Heart
B&W Ebony
Gabon Ebony all from Bill Lyman.
JLH Frogwood.
Hard to beat a Lyman hickory or just a good ole two piece hickory!

I have a Tulipwood I live from him as well. One of the first strikers I get from any call maker are a Tulipwood, Ipe and Persimmon now that I have learned what I like for the most part. There are still so many wood types to learn though. Your father had nice ones as well, if not for my hand problems I would use more of his. (They make my hands hurt, my problem, not his)
I have to add a recommendation.... Get a JLH carbon when you get a frogwood. I have 5 carbons and one is always on the hunt.

I have two of David's Ipe single piece strikers, best one I have tried and I have several. I have never had a striker from Cox, I will have to check them out.

JLH frogwood is the best all around striker I have on all surfaces. Snakewood is a close 2nd.
JLH Heavy Hickory, and Frogwood
From a strictly visual standpoint I love this one.
Wormy Persimmon from Daniel Jones Game Calls
