I sometimes take out my first shotgun. It is a Mossberg 500 that my parents bought for me 35 years ago when I started hunting. I went through it some years ago and added new stock and forearm, new 24 inch barrel and an Indian Creek choke. My Dad has since passed on so it has a special place with me.

purty neat , no recoil pad and no vent rib. And sitting on some old camo
Never been a fan of ribbed barells, I like the 1960,s early 70's guns no rib no recoil pad just walnut and metal
I have a few old shotguns that I occasionally take, one is a High Standard pointer deluxe with a 30" full vent, another is a Winchester 50 feather weight 28" full, and a 1100 Remington 26" vent rib with Rem chokes. All are blue steel and walnut, I have a lot of other types of shotguns, but these are my favorite turkey busters!
Not old school, however this is my son's bright shiny 20ga BPS.

A question for you guys that are shooting the old school guns. I have a mid-70's Coast-To -Coast Master-Mag. It is basically a Mossberg 500 branded specifically for Coast-To-Coast hardware stores. It shoots 3" shells and has a 30" fixed full choke barrel. Would there be any concern is shooting today turkey lead turkey shells through it...specifically Longbeards? Would the pressures be to high?
Do You mean there might be some other kinds of shotguns, besides Blue Steel & Wood? ::)

I'm hunting with my old Remington 11-48 this year. In the process of refinishing the stock and forearm right now. Almost all the old finish was worn off. I don't own a shotgun that doesn't have a wood stock although I did paint my 500 camo.
I will post a pic of the 11-48 when it's done. 3 or 4 more coats of finish should do it.
Hunting with two 1970's Rem 870's

Rem870/Kicks .655
2. Barrel at 28" with Hastings CT-1 System

*Polished barrels
*Shooting Winchester XX, Super-X, HV 5's and 6's.

i think lead shots are ok. pressure standards i don't think have changed in a long time. I have been told no TSS thru fixed choke barrels. I'm going to shoot remington Nitro Mag 6s out of mine this year.

Amen my friend. Good luck today.....
From time to time, I'll bring my dad's 1971 870 Wingmaster and take it along for a hunt. I often recall him telling me many years later how he messed up when he bought it. He said it cost $10 more to get it in 3 inch so he opted for 2 3/4 only. $10 was a lot to my dad back then and of course it was to many. I have no idea how many turkeys that gun has killed, but it's a lot. Dad was a turkey hunting machine.
I haven't yet, but one of these days I will kill one with my late grandfather's Westernfield 12 gauge

I`ve about decided that it borders on un-American, if you`ve ever been a hunter/shooter , not to have owned a Remington 870 somewhere along the line! Just too classic not to have, IMHO.
Went back to a set up I used in the early 90's. Rem 870/ Hastings .665 (Non ported)/ Double beads.
Shooting Winchester XX 3/2/6's and Win HV 3/ 1 3/4/ 5's. The way that I set up on turkeys it made complete sense. The majority of turkeys I shoot are within 30yds. Large percentage within 20yds. Hard to miss with this set up.
Shot my bird this year with my great grandpa's old Beretta 413 fixed modified with 2 3/4" LB #4(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200505/cbbcd65779deacc94b0cd52a70d7215f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200505/3177af7be3c095633441862fd48af031.jpg)

I would shoot some Winchester AA Heavy Target loads. 1 oz of #7 1/2 would be deadly to 30-35 yards.
Stevens 12 ga. single shot hammer model I've been using since 1958. Lots of birds with this gun.
My go-to 870 super mag is wood stocked with just a bead, been around the block on turkey guns the last decade but came back to the 870 mite throw the saddle mount on it but time will tell.

Maybe this might be considered Old School. I just picked up this Original Bottomland Remington 870. Been trying to close the deal on this and finally did. Great shape, original bottomland sling. I love this gun. It patterns great....
Old School as in wood/blued metal, bead site.

I took my dads old remington model 11-A (not sure what year it was made)and used 2&3/4 ounce TSS out of it. Shot it twice so far once at pattern board and shot a nice gobbler with it. My only concern with that model would be breaking the forearm stock so Im planning on getting a new recoil spring for it.
Great post guys and some beautiful old shotguns .. I have couple of old wood stock guns , i hunt occasionally Browning 20 ga. Belgium made and couple of old side x sides .. 12 ga. and 410...
I got a Remington 1100 2 3/4 inch 12 gauge. Long barrel sucker with a fixed full choke. Bead sight, no sling. Carry it every year. Inherited it from my late Grandpa. I have other turkey guns but feel close to him when I pack it so it's always the one I use.

Have one of those that belonged to my Dad. He used to hunt with a Mod fixed choke barrel. I had Tru choke threads put in the barrel, Parkerized the metal and wrinkle/airbrush painted the stocks. Hastings .655/.665 and lead 5's, 6's.

Definitely Old School there. Great pic and gun.
Thanks, I got this gun in the mid 90's and it's been a fun gun to hunt with.
it's nothing fancy, just a "hardware store" work gun, but it's still doing what it was built to do.
Great pic, great gun......
My first shotgun was a Remington 1100 3 inch mag wood stock. It had the white diamond under the stock grip. I shot my first turkey with it in PA in the early 80's. Used Remington hi brass number 4's. I sold that gun years later, and regret doing that. It truly was a great old school gun...

Beauty.......
First time posting, not sure if I'm smart enough to add a pic. This is a 1956 dlx wingmaster that my son killed a turkey with this past season. Has what I guess you call a matted ribbed barrel, but not a raised rib. It has a full choke.
Real nice. Those old ones are the best...
I hunted with one for several years, but i eventually upgraded to a boyds stock. I like it better. My dad still hunts with a wingmaster like the one pictured.
Love the thread, going to track down my late uncle's model 12, he always talked about buying it in 1937 at the hardware store for like 65 bucks.
I have killed a turkey with my grandfathers old single barrel and another uncle's old beloved 20ga o/u, killed two with it.
My grandfather was not a hunter but both my uncle's were pretty hard core and the one who owned the 20 is the reason I started hunting in the first place.
I believe that model 12 is fixed full choke, thinking about some 2 3/4 winchester xx mags.
My first turkey was shot with my father's 870 Wingmaster Magnum - but after blooding my BPS on some nice birds the last couple years I came into a Brno 12 gauge double that was bought as the mate to my grandfather's some 60 years ago. Since my grandfather's gun is a wallhanger, I'll be patterning and carrying the twin this tukey season and seeing how it'll do on the first turkey hunt since it came off the assembly line - thinking some 2 3/4" Longbeards might be worth trying out.

I decided last year not to try it. Think I'm going to try a 1 5/8 oz load of 9.5s that calls for 1/4 inch felt spacer in bottom of wad and buffer in shot. Figure with the TPS wad and felt in bottom there's almost no way it would scratch the barrel or not have enough flex to get out with out causing a bulge

The charging lever on that thing pulls down and back, rotating like a clock hand from 3 to 6. And then there's a button at the base of the foregrip and you press that and the foregrip drops open and you load the shells into there. Never seen anything like it. Shoulders really easy but I'm not a fan of it for the same reason I've never liked A5s which is that the action sits too high for me to see down the barrel when my cheeks on the gun.
