Turkey Guns / Mossberg 20ga 500 Super Bantam...
Last post by DMTJAGER - Today at 02:10:49 AM
The 20 gauge Mossberg 500 Super Bantam is advertised as having a receiver cut for a red dot sight.
Is there any way this cut in the receiver will accept a mounting scope base and rings system for mounting a traditional scope? or is it strictly red dot only?

Turkey Guns / Re: Best Turkey Gun Builder?

Quote from: Fullfan on May 09, 2024, 07:00:01 AMIT is not as difficult as you think. With TSS the sub ga guns are the way to go. No need to carry a 7-8 pound gun around.  Choose the gun you want, do some research. Find out what other guys are using and the results they are getting.  I made the switch from the 12ga 3.5 about 13 years ago. Have a hand full of 20ga autos, and everyone of them do very well. I hand load my own TSS, so shooting and patterning in not expensive.
Yep this 100%
I walked over 60 miles while turkey hunting this season while carrying my 9.7lb 870 ESM. While it puts 422 #8.5 TSS in a 10" circle at 40, I decided I need something much lighter.  So after MUCH research I bought A 20ga 24" Tristar Viper G2 PG model for $655 TMD with FFL XFR fee. It will be almost 3lbs lighter than my 870 ESM. Plan on shooting 8.5 TSS out of it.

I have reflex sights on two of my three turkey guns. Thay are awesome UNLESS you're hunting in rain or foggy conditions then they are a nightmare. My sons and I find ourselves hunting in rain or heavy fog at least 2-3x every turkey season (did 2x in the rain and 1x in pea soup thick fog this year already) and my boys and I got so utterly sick and tired of dealing with wet or condensated up reflex sights I just ordered two of these as they can take scope caps and will permanently replace my reflex sights on my turkey guns.

Was hunting three weeks ago in a steady light rain called in no less than 4 Toms off the roost to within 30 yards and my son couldn't see out of his reflex sight to make the shot.

Just like to update my post
Ended up returning both the Hawke turkey scopes as the illuminated reticle was absolutely NOT visible in full sunlight and if I am spending $200 on a scope advertised as having an illuminated turkey specific reticle it darn well better be visible in all light.  Ended up ordering two made in S/Korea Bushnell Elite 4500 1-4x24 scopes for my soon to arrive Tristar Viper G2 and my sons turkey gun.

Well bought some RainX anti-fog. Going to try it out on a cheap scope before on an expensive one to see what happens when I try to fog it up.
Once i do so will report back here.

All of your 40 yard patterns beat the snot out of my 12ga 3.5" Benelli SN 40 yard patterns using both 3.5" 8.5TSS Apex Turkey Ninja shells and Boss Tom 12ga 3" #9TSS.
I absolutely will have to try a different choke if I want to use TSS in my BSN.

REMEMBER it isn't only turkey season we can get a tick or two.
OVERALL I have gotten more ticks on me while fishing and deer scouting than I ever have during turkey hunting.

Yes absolutely my all time one day total of ticks on me happened during a less than 10 minuet 300 yard walk through heavy brush trying to get eyes on a gobbling Tom with over a dozen ticks on me, but I only turkey hunt and scout less than 30 days total each year.

Between fishing and deer scouting we are talking north of 100 days a year.
I now do not go turkey, deer scouting, turkey hunting or fishing in clothes that haven't had a Permethrin treatment. Two of my favorite lakes closest to my home are lousy with tics. Lake closest to my home tics are so bad by late May unless I use tick repellent on my clothes I WILL come home with ticks on my skin and clothes not one or the other but always both.
