"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.  Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." – Ephesians 4: 2-3

Driving, owning a firearm, and even fishing require licenses.

Yet, when it comes to becoming a parent, there's no licensing, training, or even prerequisite!

Suffice it to say:

Parenting is an overwhelming calling.

We start off with no experience, and by the time we have experience, it's often too late. So much is out of our control, especially when it comes to the many negative influences in our children's lives.

So, to be a good parent, where should we begin?

The most important starting point is for Mom and Dad to love and respect each other.

Why?

Because so much of our children's identities are wrapped up in their parents.

So much of their security is knowing that Mom and Dad really love each other.

And if you're divorced, please don't make the mistake of tearing down your child by tearing down your ex. Build up your child by portraying your ex in the best possible light, even when it's difficult to do. You see, if at all possible, having two parents in a child's life is important as they both play very distinct and important roles in the psychological and emotional development of a child.

Both parents have a unique and crucial role in nurturing and guiding children's development.

Parenting is tough, but the first way to be a good parent is for Mom and Dad to love and respect each other.

God commands it, and our children need it.
Pray as if everything depends on God, work like everything depends on you
