Title: New to the forum with 835 choke questions
Post by: Montana_mcs on April 24, 2024, 07:29:41 PM
Hi, new to the forum so I'll just jump in.
Have an 835 turkey thug 20" barrel. Used to run heavy 13's through a briley .675 tube with great results. Now I'm trying out TSS for the first time and my patterns at 40 are all kinds of blown open and not sure where to go next. I tried browning TSS #7/9, Hearters #9, and 3rd degree blend with disappointing results.

Then bought two more carlson chokes, a .683 designed to shoot the win xr loads but stated would handle steel up to #4 and an additional calson .675 that actually can't handle steel but at that point I was beginning to buy the win xr's in #5 and #6 hoping to get anything patterning well. Moral of the story is no combination shot great at 40. 160 in 10" was my best pattern with the hearters #9, but at 40 shouldn't that be 200-300+ with TSS?

Anyway, don't know where to drop my next paycheck in search of a better pattern so any advice would be greatly appreciated...lol

Do you have the factory .695 still?   I forget if it's compatible with tss however it could be worth a shot.

My set up is the 835 with a heavy choke .676, I am using the #9 Apex with a red dot. I did put a different butt on the gun as these guns are known for knocking your joints out of place.lol.  I used a heavy field load to get my point of aim correct, than shot 3 of the TSS loads. 27yards, 37, and a little further. I only had to adjust a few clicks to get good patterns at all lengths. Note, if you don't want to use TSS, Winchester long beard #5 work really good with this set up also.
