Title: Cz Bobwhite 28 ga
Post by: bswearing on March 29, 2023, 03:09:50 PM
Can anyone recommend a fiber optic rear and front sight for the 28ga Bobwhite.  I assume the Hiviz comp sight for the front but what about the rear?  I don't have the gun yet but I know several are using them with good success.

The only option I have found is the Tru Glo clamp on style.  Can't figure how to get it to clamp to the front, so I am going to try a screw in style sight there maybe.  I put one on that my SIL had but it came off.  It was older and I am gonna buy one to try it.

Ok, thank you! As long as it works for the rear I should be able to find a screw mounted front sight.

I sent my barrels to Skinner Sights.  They put a peep on the rear and an express type with a brass bead on the front.  Works awesome for turkey hunting or taking still shots.  Not ideal for wing shooting, but I don't use it for that anyway.

If I liked the peep sight, that is how I would have gone as well.  I just like the rifle style sights better.  Even though I have a peep sight gun and have never missed a bird with it.

The aperture on the peep lets plenty of daylight through.  Otherwise, I couldn't have used it.  I like rifle sights too.

Best idea yet! Throw the appeture out. Use the ring- works fine with shotgun.

Follow Doc's advice.  He set me on the right path to putting together a killer little shotgun.

Throw the apperture out and use the ring?   You lost me.  What is the difference?

peep<apperture<ring.  Is that right?  Mine is a ring sight if that is true.

Clarification.  Mine is a peep with a larger aperture, not the ring only.

The sight consists of a base, a ring and an appeture threaded into the ring. The appetures come with different size openings. The smaller the hole the more precise (generally). You can shoot it without the apperture which lets in more light, has a larger field of view and is plenty precise for shotgun work.

Bump

How much was it to send your barrel to Skinner and for the sights, if you don't mind me asking?

Doc or shatcher,

Could you post a pic of your front sight?

Here's one with Marble's Universal. I don't have a picture of the HiViz installed that I can put my hands on.

Start by getting Skinner (described above) installed. Shoot at 40 with LEFT barrel and factory FULl choke with the sight post run all the way in. If that puts where you want it, install HiViz Comp and adjust accordingly both sight and choke. Then go to twenty and shoot RIGHT barrel with factory cyl choke. Adjust choke accordingly. You shouldn't have to adjust sight.(I know of 2 guns that have had adjustment issues out of now 20. One needs to be filed a little. The other, my son won't let me touch cause it works for him. :TooFunny:

If the above results in a pattern shooting high, you'll have to raise the front sight to lower the POI (Marbles or Skinner). If it shoots low raise rear sight.

The point of using factory chokes is to save money. Once you're close order Trulock or others in constriction of your choice. All mine shoot left barrel Trulock Tky. The right barrel anywhere from cylinder to skeet 2 (light modified). I just depends on what that gun wants to eat.

Perfect, thanks Doc! Thats a super slick rig you've got.

Is your front sling stud drilled and tapped ? And do you know which sling mount you used?

Thank You!

I've used several over the years. The Dakota's or the ones from New England Custom Guns are the prettiest. Just remember that the rib on these guns is hollow and the metal is pretty thin. I've never had a problem with a screw pulling, but whoever is tapping it should know and take care.

Wow, I wouldn't have quessed the rib was hollow. Good to know. Im not sure if I want to go with the peep sight or get a Sumtoy mount for  red dot.
