Question:
If you hunt Fall Turkeys, do you
Option 1: Hunt in your home state?
Option 2: Travel to the nearest state with a fall season?
Just curious how many Fall Turkey hunters we had here and was curious if you would be bowhunting or shotgun hunting.
Shotgun for me, but will take one with the bow while deer hunting if possible.

Fall is my favorite time to turkey hunt.I use bow and gun in the fall and just bow in the spring.
I love the fall hunt too! I travel to Michigan as there is no fall hunt in my area in Ontario. Last year a few days after finishing my hunt I saw 27 :o gobblers chasing each other around in the field. I hope to introduce one to a load of TSS this fall.
I live in Texas and we have a long fall turkey season. I normally hunt with a bow in the early part and finish with a shotgun in January. We can harvest a total of four birds per year and I try to get at least one with a bow.
Hunting Wis. with a shotgun from Sept 17 to Nov 17
Hunt in both PA & NY, so far it's been shotgun only. :fud:
I'll be bowhunting fall turkeys in WI.
Here are some pics of one I shot last fall
Right after the shot where he expired.
He had two beards - 6" and 3"
Those are some nice pictures Mountain Man, did you ambush him on his travels or did you call him to you?

Thank you. I guess it was really neither an ambush or calling. I had shot a deer the night before and it was a pass through but I couldn't find my arrow in some tall grass. I went back the next morning to find my arrow (and I found it). There was a group of 4 or 5 toms in an alfalfa field. I sneaked up on them and shot the one that was closest to me - about 20-25 yards. In this case I was an opportunist. The birds were there and I had my bow with me so I tried to make something happen. I only had one tag so I was done for that season but I was very happy with the bird I shot.
Normally I try to pattern them. This year I bought some extra tags so we'll see what happens.
Shotgun for me ,,, good time be out in the woods
Im a fall turkey hunter im a gun hunter unless they get close enough when im archery huntin deer
Love fall. I use both bow and gun. I hunt in CT, it opened Sept 15 and have a camp in NY it opened Oct 1 st.
I'll be out there with my mossberg 500 this year :boon:
I'm really a fall turkey hunter at heart, springtime just gives me something to do for a month and a half. The first turkeys i ever called in were in the fall as was my first turkey killed. I love it!
New guy here.
I,like trkehunr93 am a fall hunter at heart also. I use my Sako 222 in the fall most of the time.
I would like to get one with my bow but the only way that will happen is if one comes by me in archery. otherwise i'll be out with my mossberg
I'm a fall turkey hunter, I always take the first week off vacation, it starts the 29th here, can't wait ;D
I archery hunt deer I have goten a couple while hunting deer with my bow but I use my 835 for the most part would like to get more with a bow but dont have a ground blide and its hard to draw with out them catching you can be done but hard. Will be out first day with Unkle Nicky he is comeing to hunt my part of PA.
I archery hunt for deer and always have a tag in my pocket in case some come in close enough. I'm excited to hunt a new stand location that I have seen turkeys using some of the same trails the deer do near the stand.
I will probably hunt with shotgun after I (hopefully) harvest a buck with my bow. We can hunt thru end of Jan. I believe in Kansas so it is a nice fill in hunting time until the spring season rolls around.
I use the my crossbow and shotgun! Only thing I dont like about our season its so hard to hunt for deer and turkey at the same time!
We've had a fall turkey season here in Ontario for a few years now! Although I enjoy it, it also compicates my life in a good way as it interferes with goose and archery deer hunts! ;D
I've managed to take 2 hens and a maturing jake (1/2" spurs) during those seasons. Still waiting to take my first fall longbeard! ;)
Todd
I'll be out in Ohio this fall, with the bow/shotgun depending on the hunt!
Love to hunt turkey in the fall, I'm usually a gunner but I plan to stick to doing it with the bow this year
Hello everyone new here, I am looking forward to this fall season. I have done some fall hunting in the past while deer hunting and did harvest a bearded hen while out last year. This year i'm going to really go out and try to pattern some birds and target a long beard. Here in IN in the counties I can hunt I can only use archery gear, looking forward to the challange this fall.
Love to hunt them in the fall with both bow or gun, just sitting in a tree stand for deer gets boring after a while so you gotta go after something, why not turkeys.
Great way to get a hen for a mounted decoy. I use the shotgun or bow what every I have on hand at the time.
I love the fall just as much as the spring. The woods are beautiful this time of year and I have a blast busting up flocks and then calling them back in. I usually carry my bow so I can take either a deer or turkey, but I love to use my Winchester 1300 as much as possible as well.
Love to chase them in the fall with my bow!

Fall hunter here. Shotgun. Is it fall yet???!::)
I enjoy fall turkey hunting......
I look forward to being in the woods hunting during the change of late summer to fall. The rutting bucks chasing does, the bear foraging before hibernation, the smell of the fall woods, and finding those elusive fall flocks of gobblers in the beautiful mountains of PA..... :newmascot:
Dog hunting in the fall is an absolute blast.....
This will be my first time hunting turkey in the fall and im quite excited. I cant wait to get out in the woods again.
Spring time with dogwoods in bloom and turkey gobbling up on Buford mountain in a glade. Spent all my time from about ten years old to age sixtyfour chasing only the big toms even in the fall. Everyone of them different. No two hunts alike. Here in missouri we have a two bird limt and the entire month of october to getem.
I've hunted fall turkeys all my life, and now that i do it with a dog it brings a whole new aspect to the hunt. Being out in the woods on a brisk morning when the leaves are changing, the buck are in rut, and the bears are out feeding . Hearing all the fall turkey talk, watching my dog work on cool mornings, i'm amazed how much ground he can cover. I used to take long naps under a big oak tree in the sun, but Cutter don't let me do that any more, you know what they say Boykin Spaniels are always ready for the next hunt.
Fall turkey hunting has a much longer tradition in Pennsylvania than the spring season and I am part of it. Fall hunting here can be great. I use a Ithaca(Tikka) LSA 55 Turkey Gun for the majority of my fall hunting. It's a over/under 222 Rem. -12 ga. I have taken birds with both the rifle and shotgun barrel.
OK guys, They have passed a regulation here in Alabama to do away with fall season this coming fall. The committee that decided this gave no prior notice before voting. They have given no reason to do so. It was reported in the news that the decision had more to do with deer hunters that only hunt in the spring wanting to save "their" turkeys from fall hunters. We are allowed 5 gobblers here regardless of which season you kill them in, so this decision has no efffect on population. You can sign this petition regardless of what state you live in. Please help show for the fall hunting tradition. Maybe someday you will want to come and hunt turkeys during the fall here in Alabama. We need as many signatures as possible. Thanks

shotgun hunt with dogs, but haveand take em with bow while deer hunting
Love the fall hunt, now that I have a dog it is even more fun! Still in the training process, he is a choclate lab and quite energetic but goes ape%$#! for the wing when I break it out and now that he is a little over a year old I am noticing him getting even birdier. He did however chase a fawn yesterday evening thru our neighbors yard so that is something we will have to work on, don't need him running deer.
Our fall season here in wv is only a week long, unless i take some vac days i really don't get to do any fall hunting. :'(

will be using bow for the first part of the season as I will be deer hunting. if buck tag is filled shotgun will be used.
I need a bow for Fall Turkey season, here in Kentucky. One week for shotgun, ain't goin to cut it. We get 4 month's with a bow. Can't pass that up.
