Title: Hens re-nesting
Post by: cuttinAR on February 18, 2011, 03:52:51 PM
Dr. Williams,

I understand that a hen only has to be bred once to lay a clutch of eggs.  What if that nest is destroyed and the hen attempts to re-nest?  Does she need to be bred again or will the first breeding still be there to fertilize?  I have heard of hens re-nesting and laying unfertile clutches.

Also, is there a good book about turkey habitat preferences and behaviors?

Thanks

cuttinAR,

If she has her nest destroyed by predators, she will not go to gobbler before she renests.

I have a book titled Wild Turkey Hunting & Management.  You can order it my website: www.lovettwilliams.com.
