I've gotten Win XX 3-2-6's to throw 120-130 at 40 before but for whatever reason the Win XX 3.5-2.25-6 is terrible only putting 75 pellets in the 10 at 40.

shooting remington super mag 28 inch barrel with a .660 indian creek and the old federal(pre fcw wad) 3.5/2/6 getting average 127 without a clean or polished barrel.

i had an 870 sps-t with a 23 inch barrel and an original mad max shooting federal fcw 3.5/2/6 getting an average of 132
fcw 3.5/2/5 getting an average of 119

Winn Hv 6's and a tight choke is a good place to start.

sorry my response needs to be changed to 80 not 100 at 40

3" 870 Shell Shucker

My best ever 40 Yard number with a Lead shell, is 131 in 10" at 40 Yards with a 3" Win Sup HV 1.75 Oz. #5 Lead shell, in a 28" BPS with an Indian Creek BDS SS .665 INV+ choke.

I got 170 in 10" at 35 Yards with a PMC 2 Oz. #6 Copperplated Lead shell, and the same gun and choke as above.  This was a perfect hunting pattern at 35 Yards.  It had all the bases covered.  These shells aren't made any more, and I only had a few, so I didn't "waste" another at 40 Yards.

surehuntsalot

over 100 with either Federal or Winchester #6's in my 835 with the stardot or .679 Gobblestopper
over 100 with either Federal or Winchester #5's in the 835 with the same chokes
80-90  with #4's in the 835 with the factory full choke(.710)
it's not the harvest,it's the chase

Only rounds my thumbhole 835 will shoot UNDER 100 at 40 (5's or 6's) with is the newer Remington loads...any of them.  The old Premier all green 2 1/4 ounce rounds would shoot great.  The Federals (old Trip+ wad loads) shoot amazing in the 2 ounce 6's, shooting and avg of high 140's and a best of 159 in the 10" with almost perfect eveness every shot.

My SBE2 with a kicks .655 I get 96 with 3" win hv 5's and around 111 with the hv 3.5" 6's at 40 yds. Make that hevi 6's though and the numbers double  :you_rock:

I would vote, but there isn't a choice for 150+.  ;D
For Lead?

Oh hecks yes!  I consistantly make high 140's, low 150's.  I have seen better and don't doubt for a second Surehuntsalot's combo will do as he said.  I haven't tinkered a ton with lead in 6 or 7 years with all the HTL shot out but with as much of the old Fed. stuff and Win. Supremes I bought this spring, I'm definetley gonna start back up again.  I am confident I'll break a high 150's-low/mid 160's  avg in two of my 4 dedicated turkey guns.

Yep, and doing consistent mid to upper 150s with 1 7/8 oz of # 5.5s in a 3" shell, through my Ruger Red Label/Comp-N-Choke .665. I need to try some #6s.
Awesome!!  :you_rock:

I run in the 120+ range with my old Balistic Specialties unported .655 and 110+ with my .658 Sumtoy.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
