Title: A couple patterns from my 835
Post by: Tom Foolery on February 12, 2012, 09:26:17 PM
Here are a few a few pattern pics from my 24" nonported 835 + .676" StarDot choke.

48 degrees, 81% humidity, swirlingish wind 4-6mph - Win HV 3.5" 2oz #6's - 42yds

10" - 143  -  16" - 230  -  20" - 302

Weather was not great this day either, mid 50's with the humidty up - Hevi13 3.5" 2.25oz #7's @ 42yds

10" - 265  -  16" - 401

33 degrees humidity up - Hevi13 3.5" 2.25oz #6's @ 43yds - 10" - 170  - 19" - 298

None of these are amazing patterns as far as numbers but they are all very even and the 835 makes it rough on gobblers.

All dead turkey patterns and look just like the ones from my 835 with a Carlson's turkey choke.

Good looking patterns. My 7 numbers are similar to yours with the same rig, but I am shooting in much warmer weather.

Thanks for the compliments guys.  I am probably more pleased with the lead 6's than any of the others.

Here is a 20yd pattern with the Win HV 2oz 6's.  I had never shot the 835 up close.  It put 15 OUTSIDE the 10".

Here is one with Hevi13 3.5" 2.25oz 6's @ 42yds with a Carlson's .705" choke.  I think it went 171 - 10"

Nice.   I'm looking forward to see what my Dad's 835 will do with handloads soon.  He's got an IC BDS in .710 (I think).

I'd hunt with that all day long.

That will do!!!! Great patterns and they will get even better in warmer weather. Those black Winchesters are the best lead shells out there imo, they still get it done....

Nice pattern... had an 835 one time and I couldn't get it to pattern well for two cents.

Thanks, I have been pretty pleased.  It won't win any shooting matches but it throws a great hunting pattern.

I haven't really found anything with #4's that it likes.  I have tried the .676 StarDot, .695 Factory, and the .710 factory choke.  The .710 is by far the worst.

I was pleased with it.  I fired the only 2 shells of the 2.25oz loads I had and got nearly identical patterns with both.  I am going to try the Win HV 2oz #5's also.  I thought I had shot them from the Stardot before but I guess not.

Here is another one.  I made a liar out of myself in the 835 3" Loads thread.  Just to prove to myself that my 835 does not like 3" shells I shot one today.  4 rounds down the tube with a boresnake between rounds.

65 degrees - humidity low
Swirling winds 10-12mph

835 nonported 24"
.676 StarDot
41yds
Winchester XX 3" 1 7/8oz #5 - $6.47 at Wal-Mart

119 - 10" - I measured a 20" later on and it was 210 but not as even as usual.

Great weather here today, 67 degree, 2-4mph winds, 40% humidity.

Mossberg 835
.678" Stardot
Hevi13 2.25oz #7 lot# 300500
42yds

10" - 296

DAMN that StarDot shoots even the cheapy rounds well...amazing...
I wonder if they have that Win XX in 3" but #6 ans what numbers youd get....that would be a real cheap turkey getter..

They do have the 6's in the XX load but no one around here carries them.  I think Reloader says they run 120-130 through his 835/Stardot.

I have to get myself a led sled just to save my shoulder lol

Thanks guys.  Season starts up on Saturday, I think the Hevi 7's are going out opening day in the 835.
