Question:
I'm only buying one for this season. Which style should I get?
Option 1: Crystal
Option 2: Slate
Option 3: Aluminum
Option 4: One I don't know about!?
I would like your opinion on which pot call to get. I am definitely going to buy from one of the custom call makers on the site (include your opinion on that as well if you want). But if you had to choose just one, which would you get?
One You didn't know about... Ceramic. Mixes the sounds of slate, aluminum, and glass in my opinion. Personal favorite.
slate for your first
I vote slate for your first as well
Another vote for slate.
Yeah start on slate. easiest to run, takes little to no conditioning. Just smooth it a little once in a while with a scotch brite pad and keep it dry. Don't be slow to try different strikers.
I would say slate as well, and TRKYHTR has a great one in the classifieds. I have heard it personally, and have 2 leaving his house today!! Needless to say wait until you see the pics, and they are all turkey.
I am a fan of Slate as well :icon_thumright:

Another vote for the same.
I am going to go against grain and go Aluminum.. I do not buy the Slate is easiest to learn on.
I hate slate calls... But I love a good glass call...
Glass
I like glass. But I voted slate. They just are very versatile and easy to run.
I taught my wife on an aluminum yesterday in no time, but id say if I had just one id go glass. good for soft and mid tone volume
my favorite is aluminum because I tend not to use them as much unless I need volume like windy days or days im trying to strike a gobble, if im looking for just soft calling ill usually run a mouth call but i have a ceramic and a crystal
SLATE :newmascot:
slate
I have slate, glass, crystal calls but love the Primos Power Crystal the best!!
Looks like slate is the clear favorite - what company makes the best pot call?
Since it's your first pot I would recommend slate. However, I would also recommend that you get one of each including ceramic. You never know what Mr Tom will like!
I would say slate as well. I started on custom Eddie Salter slate. I love aluminum but it is hard to condition right. Mine (Woodhaven Vision) gets slick in a hurry. Out of all of them I would have to say my favorite however is crystal.
I would get a slate and then I would also get a anodized aluminum, 2 great pots that are easy to run.. scotchbrite for the slate and alcohol pad for the anodized aluminum.. the anodized aluminum rocks.
Slate strike with glass sound board from Pappy gets my vote but I think the user makes the difference.
I would definetly recommend getting a slate call. Slate is a lot more forgiving and it will get you up and running much faster than glass. Check out Derby City Calls, they even have audio files so you can listen to the different models.
