Title: Best shell for Ventilator choke?
Post by: agent eight seven O on March 26, 2019, 09:34:24 PM
Finally found a Remington ventilator choke. That took a while. Planning on running super x 5's and 6's. What are some shells that have worked well with this choke? Thanks in advance.

Any quality shell will work well as that is the most important piece of the puzzle. I've seen some great patterns over the years with HeviShot #7s and I'm sure the Federal TSS shells would produce some nasty stuff.

I go the opposite route, pick a load then make it shoot. Of the two loads you mentioned, either will probably prove adequate.

My 870 with a ventilator has smoked every bird I have shot at with Winchester Supreme 3.5" #4's. Including a couple that were to far away....

The old Winchester extended range shells shoot good out of it. Longbeard 5's shoot excellent.  Never tried the 4's or 6's but will probably pattern well, too. Any of the older federals with the flite control wad did good in 5's as well. Honestly I never found a shell that choke didn't like. 3" magblends did excellent too.
