Title: WINCHESTER SX4 12 CHOKE TSS RECOMMENDATION
Post by: Catfishlee on April 13, 2023, 01:47:39 PM
I have the 24" SX4 12 gauge and I currently have it set up with Longbeard XR's 5's 2oz and Carlson .665 Longbeard Choke.  I ran a few Federal TSS 9 shot 1-3/4 oz loads through it and it didnt make any better patterns than the Longbeards.  I am open to using other brands of TSS and Chokes but was wondering if anyone has a current setup that is producing good that I might could try to recreate.

I have a sx3 Longbeard, after years of shooting a rhino .670 and nitro 4/5/7 blend  I just bought an Indian creek .665 and apex 3" 2 1/4oz #9's. Did 435 in 10" circle at 40 yards. Only thing I don't like is that sx3 is so dang heavy of holding aim waiting on a bird to come in, may be looking for a lighter 12 but I really like this pattern.

All TSS shells are not created equal.  I bought a new turkey gun this year, and since I like to overdo everything, I spent a fortune on different TSS loads and chokes.  This was my first time in-depth patterning a dedicated turkey gun, so it was a fun adventure for me.  The first thing I'll say is....I wasn't impressed with Federal TSS loads.  I was impressed with the LBXR's, especially the #6 shot, which I had never shot before.  If I had to choose between the 2, I would take LB 6's all day over Federal TSS.  The real difference came with the premium/custom shells (Apex, Boss, Foxtrot).  The numbers you get on paper with those is far superior to anything else. I'm shooting a Cynergy, which is also an Invector Plus gun, and I've got the best patterns with a .665 and .675. Hope this helps, best of luck!

Try an Indian creek .665 and apex. You won't be disappointed.

My son has a 26" barrel sx4 that he bought for waterfowl and anything else that he hunts that he doesn't want to use his sx2 with a red dot for. Saturday was raining and he didn't want to risk a rain splattered red dot if he got the chance on a bird. He put his Indian creek in the sx4 and proceeded to absolutely flatten his bird at 35 yards with an apex turkey ninja. Hard to go wrong with an Indian creek .665!

I'm running a 26" SX4 and foxtrot twisters,  in #8 or 8.5 or 9. I've been really pleased with a Jebs .665.
