When that happens, the only thing to do is to keep at it and not give up. Those "last minute" birds are some of the most satisfying.
A couple of friends and I are contemplating plans to come up to Montana next spring. Your tick comment kind of surprises me. I wouldn't have thought they would be a problem up there. I do like that you are seeing a lot of jakes, though. If we make it up there, I am hoping those jakes have turned into a bunch of clueless two-year-olds. #3
