Jack’s Gobbler

Pennsylvania spring gobbler youth opener has been a success for us the past two years, and this year was the quickest of them all. Right off the roost this gobbler came into our yelps and Jackson sent us Swarm of number 9.5 shot down the barrel of his .410.
6:10 am and we had a bird flat on the ground.
Those EZ yelpers sure make it easy
16.6lb
9" beard
1 3/8" & 1 5/16" spurs.
He had a baseball game at noon and went three for three with two doubles and a 3 run homer. Five RBIs on the day.
Big Day for a 9 year old kid.

His first gobbler ever was 22.4lb and heavier than my best bird by 2/10 of a pound.
Last year his gobbler weighed 21.4lb
He asked me what this one weighed and I said buddy he's a stud bird, look at those spurs, but he's no 20lb bird. LOL
A 20lb bird around here is a good one. Most are around 18-19lb it seems if you actually weigh them.

About two weeks ago someone told me they saw a bald eagle swoop down and attacked a strutter but they weren't sure if it actually killed the turkey or not. I walked out to the field and found a bunch of tail feathers and some back feathers but no other evidence of a struggle. This bird was missing Seven tail feathers. I have to think Jack killed the gobbler that the Eagle couldn't finish.

Congratulations Jack! Great bird and fantastic baseball game. I'd say you had a really good day for a 9 year old. Way to go bud!

Congratulations! There's nobody I love hunting turkeys with more than my son (now 14yo and has been been coming with me since he was 7).
