That's the way to do it, I hope someone carts me around when I'm in my 80s!

Thing is a lot of light weight barrels are thin and then jugged on the end to accommodate the chokes.  If you cut them off there's not enough material to thread.

BPS camo version would be good too. Only problem is those pumps knock the piss out me. My 870 is lights out but I feel that recoil more now.

Quote from: Greg Massey on March 19, 2024, 11:36:43 PMIt's all about the cadence / sound / tone ... I just appreciate custom calls myself ... For myself, it's all about sounds and tones of the rollover that makes a difference.

With custom calls i have control of what i'm looking for in a call.

If squawking is all that matters to you keep buying the cheap production made calls...

I will agree some of the production calls are better than other production calls ... SOME WHAT

There have been a pile of birds killed with production calls and a pile more will be killed. You certainly don't need an expensive custom call to kill a turkey. We have killed a lot with Primos and HS calls and most were heavily pressured private or public land birds. Not sitting over a food plot shooting low pressure birds. I have a bunch of customs as well but I'm not sure I kill many more now than I did when I was buying calls from Walmart and Scheels.

What really matters is what you expect out of the calls you want to carry and hunt with - sounds / tone.
I just think with some calls you can play a better cadence / rhythm / sound. Everyone is chasing his sound.
Strikers play an important part as well. IMO

Quote from: ferocious calls on May 19, 2024, 04:05:33 PMTo the OP. How does your latest glued box acquisition stack up?

I'm just not a fan of glued boxes ... IMO ...

Reason?

Most don't meet my expectations in the sounds / tone of what I look for in a call for myself.

Updating an old thread I see.

Well my count of accidental jakes has gone up by two or three.   :camohat:

General Forum / Re: Ol’ Tom Gunslinger Vest
Last post by compton30 - Today at 08:55:30 AM
I used it for the season and I like it but there's pro's and con's to everything. Not being hydration bladder compatible is the biggest flaw of the vest, for me. I still rigged it up so I could use a bladder but it's a big thumbs down for me. The other downside is the magnets on the striker compartments. I haven't lost any, but they can get jarred loose and I could see it being a problem for someone who uses pot calls more than I do.

Outside of that, I like everything else about it a whole heckuva lot. Really comfortable for long hunts with a lot of walking.

I have an Alps GS as my other vest. I think they will see equal time just because I like both vests. The Gunslinger is laid out better and particularly the box call pocket is better than the one on the GS, but the lack of a pocket for the hydro bladder is like low-key so annoying to me. Feels like a stupid problem.

Anyway, Ol Tom Gunslinger is a thumbs up from me.
