Title: Florida hunt
Post by: Thebody on March 25, 2023, 06:26:31 PM
I flew down to a club I joined in my home town in Santa Rosa County.

My buddy really wanted to go so we picked up in the morning and set up near a spot they tend to roost at, busted one bird and I got a little discouraged.

Heard the first gobble at 0700 which is kinda late, it had gotten windy so I opted for the Tom Teaser, Dominant Hen box call.  One series and two belted off in the pines bordering a creek bottom.

Silence for 15 minute. And I hit them again, they answered and were coming in hot.  I was really hoping my buddy would bust his first bird, but they smelled a rat when they turned into a logging deck.  I had watched them pass and they retreated the same direction.  I cut it up on my diaphram and one froze.  Lights out at 52 yards.

It was a good day!  I went out that night and had some of the biggest and best oysters I've had in a long time.

On a side note, I picked that bird up after the head step and he sure played possum,  I've got the spur scar to prove it.  Tough critters!
