Title: 200 year old oak
Post by: stone road turkey calls on July 20, 2011, 07:01:28 AM
My oak tree is going to be cut down, it's sick. has a giant burl, should make a few calls and strikers and about 100 years of fire wood.

HOLY COW!! That is one huge tree!  Any chance to have it sawn into lumber?  That is going to take one serious saw to get through that bad boy.

X3 ,I hate that but hopefully you can get a few good calls/strikers out of it eventually. We are training @ a house in the city, that they are about to bulldoze and in the yard there's 2 oaks maybe 2/3 that size that have to go for a new turn lane. That is a HUGE tree ya got there! Man what the trees have seen change in their time.

I have been trying to save that tree for 5 years, we have had drought here in georgia and it has taken it's toll on my tree. the limbs are falling off, they are as big as a reg. oak. I'm keeping the burl which is about 4ft diamater and 2 1/2ft thick few peices for calls and strikers the rest goes to the tree service. yes that tree has made shade for many a family, going to miss it.

Barry i will be happy to make you a call and striker from this tree, your going to have to wait about a year, wood needs to dry. i will keep your address and get it to you as soon as i can. take those grandkids hunting. i may kiln dry some wood and get it to you sooner.
thanks
