Title: nice wood find

helped a friend clean out a home that was owned by someone who made flutes and other musical instruments, there was a large amount of amazon rosewood and some other wood that looks like black walnut. can't tell what it is, turned a peice my hands were covered with black dust. anyone have a idea what it may be. that rosewood is beautiful

black dust could indicate African Blackwood or an Ebony of somesort, with the background information about the flute making I would say it could be Blackwood.

If your hands were covered in black dust, I would lean towards ebony or African Blackwood

My guess without seeing pictures would also be blackwood or possibly grenadillo.  My daughter has a grenadillo clarinet that appears black.  It has a deep violet/black coloration.
