Title: Couple of log questions
Post by: .308 on June 04, 2011, 11:08:28 AM
Our recent storms have produced a bunch of downed trees.  I am trying to save what I can and identify anything that is special.

1)  Is this the best way to saw this crotch?

2)  Is this spalted?

Thanks a bunch,
Chris

Chris the best way to have this cut is to send it to me....lol....really if you want the spalting to shine then cut it at an angle accross the spalted areas, not too much as you would lose the strength of the wood somewhat. The crotched area needs to tbe cut just like you have laid it out, this will produce a nice graining effect and will keep the wood's strength factor. Yep, it is spalted. pappy
