Hey guys, looking to try a scratch box. What do you like and what type of wood combinations to go with? Trying to give them something besides the old diaphragm and pot call sounds.
Kwila and butternut from SS Custom calls. Al and Josh make great scratch boxes. Very forgiving in my opinion.
Al and Josh make a great scratcher!!
SS make a ton of terrific ones that are affordable, L and L turkeys makes a cedar double sided that is all turkey, Lonnie Gilbert

Mike Crooks (Spring Creek), SS, Lonnie Gilbert are just a few I'd start off with on here. All affordable and all sing hen turkey...

Easy, just PM Al at "SS Calls" on here, or go to their website for contact info.

Thank you sir! :camohat:
SS, my favorite 2 are the Padauk butternut n holly/sapele. Everyone I have or have heard from them is awesome.
Tom crook of mississippi scratch boxes, in mahagony or the original tom gaskins, these two kill turkeys, period, i have a ton of scratchers and these are the two i hunt.
I have a SS scratch box I would sell, if interested.
Probably going to try a SS kwila and butternut. I looked up some sound tracks and sounds pretty hard to beat. I may just start a collection.

I also recommend S&S and Spring Creek but another would be Russell Beard trash mouth hen.
Get an all cedar from Scott Basehore. You won't regret it. Chuck
Lonnie makes a beautiful scratch call and its economical. By the way, it sounds great. Check him out at buckeye boxes on the forum.
