Anyone still enjoy hunting with some of the older production calls ?
Old N new
The only production call I'd use if I had to is a Cody. I'll be honest I don't even hunt that anymore. Too many really good calls out there
I occasionally tote Ol Yeller, my favorite.
:icon_thumright:, yep A Quaker boy Grand old master supreme 1982
I still buy production calls for my collection, but only hunt with custom calls. Probably only production call that I ever take out every season is my Primos Boxcutter....and that's only if it's windy. If it's really windy I won't even take that, but break out my SS Custom Calls boatpaddle.
My dad's lynch goes out with me most of the season

I have some for rainy days, Quakerboy Trifecta, Mad Super Crystal (First call I ever bought) and a Quakerboy Slate.
I use which ever call will get the job done. I have a Primos Ol Betsy slate that is always in my vest. Believe it or not, it has gotten more gobbles and killed more birds than anything I have. So production and custom for me.
I have a old lynch fool proof box call that I use here and there. It has alot of notches in it. I have a ton of calls and a few productions that I have hung on to. I was digging around through a drawer 3 or 4 years ago and ran across a preston pittman copper call. Ran it a little , stuck it in my vest and killed a bird with it a couple days later. This particular bird was well educated and had been giving me fits. Said what the hay and pulled out that copper. 45 minutes later I had my foot on his head. I have leaned that just because its a custom call , it does not always mean its a great one.

love my old yeller. Its took a lot of birds. Still use it some.
I use both production and custom.
Absolutely !!!!
There's a lot of good sounding production boxes out there..........
Hally Caller Deluxe Box
Primos Heartbreaker
KITS Black Widow (the demise of my daughter's 2018 bird)
Quaker Boy Little One-Sider
Smith's Sweet Butternut
Quaker Boy's paddle calls
The warm, fuzzy feeling that comes with hunting a good custom call may not be there .............but there's a LOT of killer production boxes out there.
I have an old H.S. Strut li'l deuce I still use every year.
Only have the old yella K&H, never take it out. Probably give it to the neighbor kid when I get back to PA.

I think Don is referring to the callmaker Kip Tipton from New York. He was in Earl Mickel's books. First one I believe.
The only mass production call that sees vest time for me is an old Quaker Boy Aluminator in a black plastic pot. Awesome little production pot call. Found it in a clearance bin for $5 many years ago.
Got a lynch box and jet slate from 80s that still see some action

I have a Primos Mike Battey slate that is a great sounding call and I also a old Preston Pittman aluminum two sider that is a great old call. I lost my favorite a Primos old spring hen push pull that had killed a good many birds

Almost..............
Kim Tipton, Niagra Falls , New York
My favorite long box is a primos battleship. I will be handing that call down to my daughter. Don't foresee parting with it any other way.
I killed a PILE of gobblers with a primos heartbreaker box that I have all but retired.

Don that's it. How were Kim's boxes ? I never played one.
I got a primos Heart Breaker that is still in the line up.
Still carry K&H Ole Yeller & Moonshiner and Primos Heartbreaker

Good enough to make my short-list of good production calls. Yep.
These are the only two I have.
The Feather Touch is all cherry. The Black Widow is all black locust. I'd not hesitate to take either as my only box on opening day. Like I said before.............the Black Widow was responsible for the demise of my daughter's slammer of a bird last spring.

That's a good one. One of the first turkey calls I ever bought. That, an ol yeller and a primos power crystal were my main calls for several years
Don
They are some nice looking boxes. Beautiful picture of your daughter with her trophy gobbler. CONGRATS !!!

I have an old H.S. Strut li'l deuce I still use every year.
I have a Lil Duece glass and Lil Duece slate.........I'd probably quit hunting if I lost one of them. I've called in so many birds with them that it would be like losing a family member. Hickory on slate and rosewood on glass. Sometimes, it seems to be almost unfair to the lovesick toms that hear em...almost.
The power crystal is the only production call in my vest that I still use regularly. I keep a Lynch World Champion in case I ever feel the need to gobble.
I wonder why Primos stopped making the Heartbreaker? I think I heard somewhere that it was a copy call of Billy White's Hustlin' Hen which is also in my vest.
That KITS Black Widow helped put 3 more longbeards in the pot this spring.
I still sometimes use an Ol Yeller, Lohman Crystal Thunderdome, Quaker Boy Aluminator, and a generic slate in a plastic pot bought at KMart many years ago.
Field Grade QB Grand Old mast has accounted for about 20 birds.
The only boxcall I've ever used is a Quaker boy, and I've killed several using the K&H yellahammer pot
I never go in the woods without my Knight and Hale model 150. NEVER
Yep, An old original Grand Old Master stays in my vest. I mostly use Spring Creek Box calls, but in a pinch I'll bust out the Old Quaker Boy.
Yes. Quaker Boy Grand Old Master Supreme from 1989. 6 toms gave up their life to it this year again. It is my ace. It is always with me. My other boxes and pots get rotated thru but the QB is always on my side. Now it certainly could be a confidence thing that i am so successful with it. I know that box inside and out and blindfolded and how to make it sing. And confidence is a huge part of success.
