I am having to end this one early Cut off is 4:00 Pm central 02/27. Sorry
OK the Breakfast & Bacon giveaway was fun and interesting...mackerel for breakfast? Anyway I am going to do something similar each week until the end of April. I will post a call and theme to match and you the good people of Old Gobbler can post up your 2 cents and then I'll draw for a call.
This time I'll keep it open until next Friday March 1, and let's do a Double Bit.
It's name come from the fact it's a working call, a tool if you will. So to make this educational as well as entertaining. List a turkey hunting tool you use during season, and why you use it. Let's try not to repeat anything and be specific.
I'll go first with, Seat, cause if the ol' butt is on a rock it's hard to sit still.
Thanks!
The tool I use most and would not want to be without is a good set of pruners. From clearing shooting obstructions to building ground blinds I love my pruners!
3/4 nylon mesh facemask. Hides the ugly and yet allows air to flow
GPS..cause even though my wife tells me to get lost from time to time, I'd rather not.

Shotgun!!! To turn their heads to mush!!!

Toilet paper---- for when you just gotta go
THIS! :z-winnersmiley:
A cell phone - so you can call a jealous buddy that could not get out that day and let him hear your hunt while the turkey
gobbles and your gun goes BOOOOM! (i've done it, its fun... try it some time)
coffee thermos and a ham sandwich
Permanone spray to keep the ticks off.
Binos...so i can see the hooks of turkeys coming in from far out. This way i can pick out the big hooks!
Trigger stick. It's just that much easier to have the gun up and ready when it's time.
Turkey call, cause I don't think here turkey turkey would get the job done. :TooFunny:
Woodpecker call............because they'll holler back at it some times.
My truck, I put about 3k on it a year chasing them stupid birds..
A "gun-brella" I can get under when it's raining. Sugar melts when it gets wet....... ;D
My sportsman utility tool. It is a turkey tote, weight scale, and tape measure (with NWTF scoring formula). You can also put a mini mag light in it if desired. It is always in my vest and has been used many times!
Turkey vest! I just don't think digging through a back pack looking for a call while birds are in front of you is a great idea.

A dried turkey wing if I have one if not then my hat. I can smack either against the tree to sound like a hen flying down
Shotgun shells! You can't kill'em with a rock! I've gotten mad enuff while hunting them I could throw rocks at them though LOL!
Wouldn't want to leave without my sandpaper and scuff pad. Got to keep them calls in working order.
My Turkey Slig, it makes carrying them big old gobblers out that much easier, not that I mind doing that, sure beats mowing the lawn!
:fud: :OGani:
My memories of hunts gone by, to allow you to remember past hunts while you wait him out.
my favorite glass pot call because it seems to jerk a gobble out of em when nothin else will!
My hunting buddy
I am darn glad to be sporting a good sweat wicking t-shirt later in the season. There is a remarkable difference to me in the comfort they provide.
FC
Aerial map of the property (and surrounding land) that I'm chasing them on. Always have the smartphone as back up. Knowing that there's a small clearing on the adjoining property that a tom is hung up in helps you adjust your game plan.
Extra socks. Nothing worse then walking miles with sweaty wet feet.
A good pair of boots.
Extra eye glasses
My dog whistle ! yes i said dog whistle.....and it does work (makes um gobble....sometimes ;) )
A bottle of water..... And here's why......
Went to Kansas a couple of years ago to get a Rio. Last day, 0 kills, and was dedicated to spend a day in the 95+ May heat to get my Rio.... Left my water at camp, no cell phone service, and guide wasn't picking me up until 7pm. Needless to say, by 1 pm I was hallucinating and was so de-hydrated I stopped sweating. Found some stagnant molded water, but I didn't care and began drinking it.... Not 4 mins later I'm walking across a horse pasture when it hits me... Diareah and vomit in the middle of a horse pasture...... Nothing like trying to do your business in the middle of a 100 acre field with 4 horses sniffing your rear..... A HUGE learning lesson..... SO I will ALWAYS have a bottle of water on me...
I have a necklace that I made a long time ago, it is a simple strip of leather with several spurs of turkeys I have kilt. It is what I consider my MOJO or good luck charm. I do NOT go huntin without it.
By the way when I put it on my wife says it looks like I should be doing a rain dance or a Voo-doo chant!!! LOL
My Avian X quarter strut jake decoy... takes his attention right off me and focuses it immediately on that "poaching little runt" he feels the need to smash to pieces. Worked like a charm last year :icon_thumright:
My backpack with all my goods in it. Serves me well.
A camera, I always have one to take pictures at location where I shot my bird
Face paint.. I'm old school. Plus you can hear better without the mask.
This might sound silly but each year I have my daughters write on one shell anything they want & that is the first shell that is loaded in my gun until the season is over. If its not used, then it's retired into the ammo cache and saved until their old enough to go with me and then they can use them....
My camera...so I can provide proof I actually killed something when no one believes me ;D

I think that's AWESOME! ...and they will ALWAYS remember that and most likely pass that on to your grandchildren one day. It's all about the memories.
My Orange Hat .....Safety First !! :fud:
A stick. Gotta be able to scratch leaves like a feeding hen without moving too much.
A good lanyard to keep my favorite wingbone or tube close by!
Me thinks there are some bashful people. Over 350 views and only 44 comments. Surely more people than that want a chance to win a call.

Which ones we want to know what you use, box, diaphragm, slate, glass
I know it's a repeat but a bottle of water. In fact, I keep an ice chest stocked up during turkey season. I never had the experience quoted earlier but did learn that it was a valuable practice!
One thing I don't leave without is my permit.....ya never know when you'll get checked.
skeeter getter
I have to go with a wing bone yelper my Grandpa made from the wing bones of the first turkey I ever shot. Using a call to fool the 'ol Tom makes it a hunt, and using something as primative as a hand made, made by my grandpa none the less, wing bone yelper, makes it that much more exciting!
OK guys I'm goint to have to cut this one short and end it at 4:00 pm today.
I have to head out of town, and take care of some things. Anyway sorry for the short notice and get those last minute post in.
