I've hunted in South Florida twice over the years and it is a Wonderful way to start out your turkey season. Good Luck to all that start their season next weekend.
Welcome to all of the out of state hunters wishing you all take home a nice Osceola good luck.
Thank you I'll be hunting private central Florida opening week...looking foward to the kickoff of another great season.
All set for a public WMA on 03MAR with backup quota for 3rd weekend
I have a first weekend quota for a South Florida WMA then it's time to hit another public WMA. Good luck!
For all out of state hunters who will be hunting on wma in South Florida. Warning the trails down here are dangerous be careful this doesn't happen to you 10 miles in there's no tow truck COMING to get you out .

After hunting one same undisclosed area for 30 plus years .....I finally got really stuck , Joe knows the story .,lol ...I spent the night out in the swamp sleeping in a submerged 4x4 , no cell phone signal and 14 miles away from the nearest road , and that road was a lime rock road that nobody comes down
Raining like crazy ....water rising ....in the morning I was planning to give the high lift jackwench 1 last try ,and this was after 12 hours of wenching it out ...shovel , broken straps
Anyways ....prepared to abandon the truck hike on out for possibly a 8 hour hike through often times waist high water -- with my water , and pistol .....wouldn't you know by grace of God I managed to snatch out of that hole ....
Then I spent a few hours trying to get out of the same trail ..that was now 1-2 foot higher in runoff water
My buddy blew 1 ford engine up there , and another a toyota engine in there by sucking in water in the intake ---even when it's bone dry there are holes just like the pictured
Be prepared to abandon your truck FOR GOOD if you hunt this area , and you get stuck cause the only thing that will get you out is a buggy
Buggy ...or hike it , the 2 options
I had an oh, crap! moment in a Florida WMA years ago, and it was not even wet. Just soft sand and with an all-wheel drive Santa Fe. Wife was at the condo 40 miles away, and I had the only car. Fortunately, I was able to back out. I never told her about it. I still hunt the area on our spring vacation, but I'm real careful about where I drive. Whenever I come up on water, I get out and walk it first.
I have been stuck plenty of times growing up in South Fl., only takes a few times to realize how easy it is to get stranded even with the proper vehicle. 40 years ago we were hunting a South Fl. WMA, my buddy and I both had big rigs to handle the nasty conditions, he hydro-locked his truck and I had to very carefully get close enough to pull him out without the same happening to me.....long story, I had to tow him 2 hours back home, lucky I was with him as we were in the middle of nowhere.
