Title: New Scratchers - Sound File
Post by: gergg on February 28, 2016, 03:24:39 PM
I made a bunch of scratch boxes this weekend and took them out to the woods to see what they sound like. There are 5 different calls on this recording....4 Honduras mahogany/cedar soundboard & 1 black walnut/cedar soundboard. They were all played on a cedar striker as softly as I could play them, the phone/recorder was about 30-40 yards away in some fairy thick cover....Oh yeah, at the very end was my feeble attempt to play 2 different trumpets.....lol.....just wanted to compare them to the scratch boxes. So let me know what you think, sure is fun making them.

Thanks...Greg

Thanks, appreciate the feedback....I believe I just changed the striker for the last one played, that same call was played earlier in the sequence, just goes to show how important the call/striker combo is.

I think they sounded great...loved the soft talk with the natural sounds in the background.

There's no doubt that striker choice does make a difference and like a pot call you need to carry a few with you to the woods.

Thanks Jed, that was a fun little test, always amazes me how different a call sounds in the big woods versus the house/shop.
