Saving Surfaces on Duds

I've tried using a lighter but it just makes the slate crumble. I've read where you can put them in a microwave. I use goop.

What's the best way to preserve surfaces from duds?

Another not. Slate isn't as hard like it used to be

If it is a dud because you mismeasured then the pot is junk. I find the center of the back and drill a hole with a forstner bit.  Use the pin jaws to chuck it up and take my parting tool and separate the surface from the pot leaving a little wood adhered to the surface.  Pretty easy to get the wood and glue off by hand after that.

Pretty much me as well. I don't spend much time on duds. By the time I mess with it I could just build a new one.

I hear ya. I'm more concerned with saving the surface (some are $7-8) than the pot
