I'd like to thank Jody for pinch hitting for me last week.  A great devotion -thanks brother.

===================

"I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad" (Ecclesiastes 8:15).

A day hunting or fishing.  A day with just the family.  A day watching a ball game. Dinner out, just the two of you.  Life's little luxuries.  Signs of God's goodness!

The writer of Ecclesiastes answers objections to the good things in life:  Won't life's pleasures distract us?  Shouldn't we be saving it for later?  Maybe people will criticize us for our little luxuries?

The holy writer takes a look at life and its shortness, notes the transitory nature of wealth, and concludes:  If the Lord gives you good things, be grateful and enjoy them.  It will keep your mind off how short life is.

I think (my opinion) life's little luxuries are supposed to temporarily divert our attention away from some of the worries of life and make them "smaller" and easier to handle.  Certainly, they can help us refocus on God -the giver of goodness.

The big things are under control, as you have the priceless gift of your Savior Jesus Christ.  Forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life are yours in Him  You have peace with God because of His grace and mercy.

Thanks be to God who gives us these little luxuries and the time to enjoy them.  Savor all of the Lord's gifts!
