I like walnut, chechen, and jatoba. Gives me three distinctly different sounds.

All depends on your preferred ear... I like a raspy tone and my go to striker is a one-piece I had Chad Gunzenhauser make out of cocobolo wood.  I can crank it up loud or bring it down low, it really is outstanding.  I haven't found a surface where it doesn't shine.  I also carry a woodhaven strike 3 birch flared tip that has a nice high pitch great for clucks/cutting through the wind.
